Come on Kim. You're leaving it a bit late to anounce the discounted (free) boat show ticket offer available to the forum regulars. You can't expect us to run boats, buy expensive mag's AND pay to come and drink all the booze on you stand.
Chop Chop there's a good chap.

ChrisP ;O))

What do you mean the sea gull in front's walking !!!

Re: fre tickets - chrispy\'s joking!

Not to worry, numenius, there are no free tickets, even if you plan to BUY a boat at the boat show.

However, with logic that befits the marine industry, if you buy a boat, then the dealer/manufacturer will then send you free tickets to the next boat show, and perhaps even the one after that. Likewise, all the people who are welcomed on a boat at the show, and perhaps taken out during a show day (gasp!) will also have very recently ordered one. If you're a prospective buyer, well, do you mind waiting or coming back tomorrow? - we have some customers due soon, see? Dickheads.

You don't agree with the concept of dealers looking after people that have ordered boats from them then....???

And I wonder how many "Oh, I'm about to buy a boat maybe, send me some tickets" enquiries they all get just before a show?

:-D

Re: fre tickets - chrispy\'s joking!

But those people have already ordered and of course they have already seen the boat, I would suppose, What you're saying is the serious people buy/order the boat before the show? So theres no point in having a show, because nobody off the street is going to order a boat at the show!! Their marketing needs a little looking at. Nothing wrong with giving existing customers tickets, but they should be showing POTENTIAL customers the boats and allowing them to have a test. Not swamping the boats with those who already have one, whats the point?

Err, I was rather under the impression that that was the point of the show, to let people view the boats. Thats certainly what happens when I go...

Point is, you can hardly blame Mr. Salesman if he gives a customer thats just placed a £1/2 million pound order a bit of red carpet treatment can you?

And if Mr Dealer was to say "Right, anyone interested in buying a Sunseeker please come and have a blast up and down Southampton water with us" how long exactly do you suppose the queue of "serious buyers" would be....???

Do I note a tad of sarcasm in your reply? Maybe a little clarification is in order....... or maybe not.

Sarcasm, moi!!?? Surely not!

It just strikes me that it is easy to sit here saying "Wot they ought to do is..."

But in reality a bit harder to put into practice...

Yes of course, ari, I wd expect a bit of red carpt treatment. But the point i was trying (and failing) to make was that it should focus a bit more on potential customers.

I don't see the problem with a massive queu for the sunseeker trip. I'd run it all the time. I've never been offered a trip on the water, but could and might have bought a p75. Last boat show, sunseeker had a whole boat just parked up next to the entrance - so why not have one doing trips all day long? Or, why not have one boat a bit stripped-out of anything nickable, and lettem run about on it all the time instead of long boring queues? And of course there's another point - if sunseeker were the only ones doing this, instead of being snooty, the wannabees might well be the main takers - but some of those wannabees will one day be, er, "bees" and will remember. "We only covet what we can see".

Doesn't everyone's marina manager buy "special guest" passes and make them available to customers? (I s'pose only exhibitors can do this....)

TCM, I agree with your point entirely, but in reality given the crowds and demands I just don't think it would be workable. You'd just end up with a lot of very disappointed people who didn't make the trip...

You might as well say "why don't Ferrari have an 360 Modena parked outside the NEC during the motorshow and blast people up and down the motorway?"

Lets face it anyone seriously interested in spending £1/2M plus is going to contact their place in Poole for some proper one to one contact anyway. And there seem plenty of people coverting their boats at the moment.

Re: fre tickets - chrispy\'s joking!

It couldn't be a proper "go" as in a blast up and down the solent. But once, in France, I went to see a motor museum. Outside was a Rolls Royce, perhaps an early cloud, giving rides! The rides were once around the car park, perhaps a hundred yards, but still fab.

I did go down to poole, but didn't get a ride at sea.

Yes it is easy, But and it's a big but! I'm a potential customer, we are all potential customers and isn't it easier to go to the show and see ALL the boats your interested in in one place and all the equipment you're going to need! Rather than trips all over the place. I realise I'm just not explaining this adequately so if you'll excuse me, I'll get out of this.

Having read todays post's, it's obvious there is a misunderstanding regarding the "free" or complimentary ticket handed out to potential or existing customers.

As an exhibitor at the Southampton show, it is around this time of the month that I get requests from existing customers that have screwed me into the ground over the price of their boat, asking (pleading) for free tickets, usually asking for 4 or more as they have friends that are thinking of buying a boat from me, or from potential customers who may just place an order at the show.

We don't get free tickets, we have to pay for them. We get a good discount, but they still cost. Two years ago I gave away £500.00 worth, and didn't sell a boat.

I'm starting to think that if you can't afford the price of a ticket, you probably can't afford to buy a boat.

Do real buyers buy at the show?

If I was really interested in a Predator 95 or such like there's no way I'd risk a snub from 18 year old bit of totty on the Sunseeker gate. I'd far rather phone Sunseeker, visit the factory, praps a bit of a sea trial, lots of grovelling from the sales staff, etc, etc.

Worst exhibitors are Cranchi. If you ever enquire about buying a boat from them their stock answer is 'oh no, earliest delivery on one of these is 2004.' Complete waste of space imho.

I agree with you! I once got a free ticket from the marina, but I always assume I will have to pay for my ticket, I tend to assume I will have to pay for everything I get, that way I'm not disappointed!
