Is the boatshow a good place to buy boat stuff such as liferafts and nav gear etc ?

Are there genuine good deals to be had or are the suppliers more likely to do a deal in November/December?

Not that I've got any money left.........

You will get to see, touch and play with some of the stuff, but I personaly have not found it any cheaper than some internet companies. You may get the odd show special, but have your PDA mobile internet available and do an immediate check on some of the other sites re prices. Some end of range stuff may be available cheap, or specials on some new products, but I have never got excited about any stunning bargain /forums/images/icons/wink.gif Don't forget you will have to carry the stuff around, or perhaps have to pay for postage & packing.

I got an excellent deal from catus comms on a furuno chart plotter cos it was
new, but i had to wait 2 weeks for delivery.

My advice is haggle, thats what i do. You would be amazed what you can get
e.g. my chartplotter!!

Most people dont seem to do this, i love it!! Its like a turkesh bazzar when i get
going but dont be afraid to walk away!!! like H1 says know your prices and go for
it

Yes its a good place, but my advice is to be realistic, offering a dealer half price for a depth sounder when its already discounted at the show just annoys. (It's amazing how often it happens). On the other hand, if you've got a list you will probably do better handing it over and saying "Give me a price for that lot" than trying to buy individual items.

What isn't worthwhile, in my view, is to go to the show for shopping if you're spending less than £500. By the time you've got there and got the family in and bought lunch you'll have blown any savings you might have made. Go for other reasons of course, but not for shopping unless you're doing a refit.

I will of course be competing on price and squeezing the margins yet further during the show, but from the confines of my garage. Visiting on Friday and Saturday.
