Myself and some friends are considering on embarking on a boatsharing partnership. I believe this is a relatively common thing, does anyone have any information about how to set up a partnership like this that is legally, morally, and financially secure?

I think you'll find the RYA can advise on this. Just one point though, two friends of mine have shared a boat for two seasons. They are both charming and reasonable men with an even temper. Both have moaned more or less tactfully about each other to me during that time, and the boatshare has clearly tried their tempers from time to time. Less equable and civilised men would have been at each other's throats by now. How good is your relationship with your share partners, really?

We had a boat share, it was not a very good experience, as much us as anyone else. I heard of a partnership of solicitors who shared a boat, within a couple of years the bussiness partnership had broken up.

Having said that it works for some, good luck.

We have just joined an existing boat sharing group. We have not yet seen the boat (first trip October - very excited) so are not able to comment from personal experience, but were reassured that other members of the group had been together for many years. Advice we got from YachtFractions (who we found to be excellent) was that best relationship might be business partners rather than friends. That makes sense as sometimes one can perhaps be a little too frank with friends (or so they tell me!). Other advice that I have received is that often the big conflict point is money (isn't it always) e.g. if one partner wants a new suit of sails, another doesn't, or someone is tardy stumping up their share of the running costs. We have built into the contract that we along with one other (of four) partners has some sort of first call on school holidays but all the other partners seem very relaxed so I am confident we will be able to sort things out without difficulty.

As I said at the outset, have not yet had any actual experience of the partnership but am not at all worried about the sharing side of things (unlike the weather in Croatia in late October!).

We do it and I cannot complain especially when it comes to the bills

You have to have rules and ones that are cannot be thought to be vague at all, make sure you pin down where you want to keep her and how this can change and also what amounts to spend on capital - it is easy to get agreement on repairs that have to be done but a lot harder to get agreement on buying the toys

Others will give more details on an RYA agreement that is available - we used our own which we sat and agreed then filed away hopefully never to be seen again unless there is a fall out

We have a boat share and it proves very successful. Recently each member had the boat for a week of summer holidays based in St Malo. This Friday sees the boats return. It is important that boat sharers get on and each gets good value. There has been no trouble in the finance area but I suspect this is the area most fraught with danger. People just don't realise how expensive it is to keep a boat. If people have tight budgets then it's well worth setting expectations at the outfront.

Oops I did not check your profile.

I was not looking for a donation from a professional web site designer, but there are probably other operators of not for profit web sites who have created a GUI framework they would be prepared to donate.

Knowing the internet there is probably a repository of open source web site skeletons somewhere.
