Boat share ? Is anyone in a syndicate or is it frowned upon.

We had a 1/4 share of a yacht for a number of years and it worked great for us. The biggest draw of course is the cost saving with the downsides being pretty obvious. We bought into the syndicate through a well known broker but didn't know our co owners previously and this caused no issues.

This was our first boat so it was a great way to learn from experienced boaters. The syndicate manager (longest standing owner) liked things done a certain way and we went along with what he wanted. He cracked the whip a little bit if things weren't left exactly how he liked but it meant the boat was kept in great condition and you could turn up on a Friday night at 8pm knowing you would find no significant issues.

If you're an experienced boater and you have strong pre-conceived ideas of how things should be done, boat sharing might not work quite so well. You will end up being frustrated if the syndicate way is different to how you want to do things and it will likely frustrate you if other owners don't adhere to your own high standards.
