Boat selling scams.

Give im the money Barny

If you were living in Saudi would you buy an expensive item without looking at it, send money on trust to a stranger who may not even have a boat to sell. ??????

Now that's a scam worth looking at.

I guess you didn't fall for it either, then!!! ;)

Thankfully I just Googled his "name" and email address and this thread pops up, which is exactly why I posted. Unfortunately he's probably now known as Willy Weasel or similar.......!

The last posting purporting to be from a person in Aberdeen, Scotland uses "strange" english, which a scotsman would not use. It is grammatically incorrect, suggesting that the person writing it is using english as a second language.

I would never give my bank account details, and insist on a posted bank draft which is irrevocable once drawn.

If its a scam, you wont hear from them again

You obviously dont speak to many scotsman lol
Scottish people do use english as a 2nd langauge......

Had a few monkeys like that contacting me when I posted a "trailer wanted" ad on boats and outboards. First, a benign enquiry with something like "could you send more details", which is sort of fine, but then a follow-up email saying that they're very happy with the info I've provided and the asking price, yadda-yadda-yadda, all well and good, but hang on, I'm actually trying to BUY something here, what do you mean you need my bank details to wire the money over?
I felt righteously indignant, obviously. It's one thing when they try to scam you, but when it's done in a shamelessly wholesale manner, not even bothering with making it even a little bit personal? Scams are just not what they used to be, these days! I even suspect the whole thing might've been handled by a bot, not a human being. A lot like Virgin's call centre.

I had this sort of mail when trying to sell my last boat, easy to spot.

If they do not mention WHAT it is and talk about ITEMS or similar its a junk mail who would buy a boat with out mentioning her? Size length weight or something?

Last one I got I offered cash on collection, or as I was in Nigeria I would except USD there. Before there shipping agent collected from UK.

Never heard from him again :D

Try visiting Peterhead. As a west coaster I was totally lost. :(

I am selling my 37 ft. Aluminium Sailing Yacht.
I have had several offers of purchase from Saudi Arabia, they ask for my bank details, so that they can send me the money. I treat this with suspicion, but I send them my bank details anyway, but of course nothing comes of it.
My question is, does anybody know why they want bank details, they are only of use for putting money in ?

To be blunt, this sounds like ID theft. Never, ever, release ANY personal details to strangers unless you are 100% certain they are legitimate and trustworthy. Handing out your bank details, etc, is asking for trouble. If you do a search, you will find a number of useful UK sites about scams and protecting your identity.

I worked in banking and investments for a number of years, so I am decidedly cautious when it comes to revealing any personal information. I strongly suggest you become likewise. Crime via the internet is a multi-billion dollar business. Protect yourself.

Hi Lindy,
Thank you for posting that info. "Frank" recently contacted me about a dresser I had for sale in the local Trade-It - exactly the same format. However, I was not as canny as you are and I unfortunately did give him address etc. Is there anything he can do with these details
