thinking about type of alarm,
movement detectors aren't any good because your boat is never still and a moving curtain could set it off.
Door sensors are possible, but often need wires and ugly detectors on /by the doors.

My favourite would be pressure pads, they can't go far into the cabin unless they can fly!! once triggered a couple of minutes alarm screaming should get them running away..

But if you mounted to movements sensor light horizontally on the mast it would pick up a person moving on deck?

What about a very visible video surveillance system (CCTV)? Surely that would would make a thief think twice?

My wife spent time as a nurse in New Guinea. The locals were petrified of snakes so the nurses had rubber replica snakes visible in the window. (Africans are petrified by Black Mamba snakes)

When left unmanned on a mooring at night a small led light below would deter and is easy to do using modern technology better still music or the like just audible from deck also something indicating a presence aboard maybe cups and plates laying about in cockpit and if you are feeling devilish a part bottle of whisky containing whatever mixture you like ( keep it legal )

and every time the boat rocked and rolled in the wind, the boom would move, or the mooring ropes would move. Some seagull sitting on the cabin roof would move.. it would be alarming every few seconds..

Please think about the guy who boards your boat to adjust your fenders to prevent damage, or adjust the bow line because the marina chain on the sea bed has moved a bit in the storm........

The guy will be adjusting my fenders or adjusting my bow lines, not attempting to enter the cabin.
