I've searched in vain for info on this.
Came up with 'Boat Warden' but a bit pricy.
Is there a system whereby I could call up my on board laptop camera from time to time to see what is happening ( or hopefuly not happening!!) on board The camera could be pointing at (say) the bilge pump warning light, the heater warning light and the mains power on light.
How to switch such a set up on and off sounds an issue in itself. Has anything like this been developed please?
 
i have a system that cost £120 on ebay. Its connected to a mobile that will call me if and intruder enters the boat ( can listen in on them too), if there is smoke/fire, or if it detects too much bilge water. No monthly fees, a bargain i think!

What is the brand?

I looked after a Discovery 55 in the Caribbean and he had sensors inside all the cabins as well as bilge alarms which were connected to the Satalite phone which would send him a text message and set off a boat alarm if they were triggered. Great system.

The 3G system sounds much cheaper but probably not as reliable.
 
I put a 3g/gsm tracker on my boat and quite frankly it was rubbish, mainly i think as it was a small easy to hide unit so had no external aerial, same thing on one of my old cars worked fine, but on the river no signal anywhere.
Even difficult to get a std mobile signal, so if you can get that okay it may work for you.

A few years ago I was given a small app for a sony p901 phone that when you texed it it would take a photo and send it to you. Supplied by the very clever YAPP man.

I've probably still got the software and install file somewhere, but the phones it runs on (Sony Ericsson P900 and P910) are obsolete now.

The phone needs to remain on, and on charge if left for more than a few days. When a text message was received with a code word and email address/phone number following the code word the application took a photo and sent an email/picture message to the address/number in the incoming text message.

I originally wrote it to see what my cat was doing all day while I was at work - was he having a wild party with all the neighbouring cats, or what? Unsurprisingly, he just slept all day, although I did catch him having a stretch once.

I demonstrated it here a while ago. I got a PAYG SIM with £5 credit on it, left it on my boat, and published the number and code word in a post here. Anyone interested could get a photo of me having a doze on board emailed back to them. Can't think why they wanted that, but the £5 credit soon got used up.

Have a look on the Westerly web site or Wiki. Westerly33 owner Ken Hastie has a boat monitoring system that he has used successfully using a mobile phone.
he has described the setup to the Westerly owners association several times so should be easy to track down

Found something which looks OK but cant get that app onto my San Francisco phone.
Its in the Google App store and called Remote Eye but I dont seem to be able to get it onto the phone. There is an App store on the phone but this is quite limited.

There are lots of systems on ebay. Mains powered and with various wireless add on like PIR sensors etc which will send a message to your phone. I am considering one of those with some adapter for bilges etc. I do have concerns about the mains though; if it gets unplugged then how do you know. I have found a camerra system and will post when I get it working!! ( see new thread!!)
 
Forget electronics. Length of fishing line to the pin of a hand grenade. The police will come round to your house and tell you when someone has broken in.

I have a GPS Vehicle Tracker on my boat, came with a sim slot (Tesco PAYG) plus a gps. I can set it to text me if the boat moves more than a certain distance, also it has contacts for open doors, panic alarms, engine being switched on and speed alarms ( more useful in a car). I can call it and it tells me where it is, ask it to report and it tells me if there are any contacts switched plus state of battery plus quality of GPS and phone signals. I can call it and switch a relay that will turn off the engine, also turn on/off an alarm, also listen in to conversations. It is set up to send texts to me and another mobile (up to 5). Cost about 80 quid from China, called GSM/GPRS/GPS Vehicle Tracker. GPS103-A. Has worked fine all year except when my main battery went flat. Now being topped up with a solar panel.
