Hi,

I am going down to the south coast this weekend. I am looking to buy a boat and by my reckoning there MUST be a boat sales yard or two down around the Porstmouth / Southampton area.

What I want to know from you lot is where would you reccommend. Names and phone number would be good.

Thanks in advance.

As Wiggo says..what do you mean by/buy a boat ? If you dont know, and appologies if you do, with the odd exception, boats arent sold like cars-meaning anywhere that moors boats (like a marina) will have brokers offices, and boats for sale. But some brokers specialise, so I d suggest you buy a magazine or two and have a look who is advertising what and where...Marina wise you have 4-5 I think in Chichester, Port Solent next door, and several on the Hamble. That should keep you busy for a w/e.

Trouble is, it's going to turn up everything from Sunseeker Sales to Dodgy Fred's Used Boat Emporium (Nothing over a Tenner, all boats come with free 1/2 hr warranty).

Needs to know what he's looking for.

Sorry I should have been more specific.

I am looking for a S/H boat in the under £10,000 region.
I know it aint much to pay for a baot but it is all I can afford and my reasoning is that if I can find a cheaper boat I can get the fun of boat owning while I save for something slightly better.

Thanks for all your help.

I think what people are saying is what type of use do you intend putting it to. Its no good them pointing you in the direction of a sportsboat dealer if you want to go fishing.
It might be worth having a look at a few web sites first. Just to see what you'll get for your money. The budget you've set. Is that to include all the other bits you'll need to buy as well or is that on top of?
Where will you be using your new purchase. Coastal, inland, lakes. Do you want to trail it or keep it on a mooring. Pick up one or two of the mags. Also click on the button at the top of the page labelled "buying a boat"
You will find what your after eventually. It just takes a lot of leg work!

As a good starting point, try Deacons boatyard at the Bursledon end of the Hamble. It's close to the motor way, and very easy to find. They tend to stock boats at the lower end of the yachting price range. you can find directions on their web site (http://www.deaconsuk.com/). From there on, you have Moody, Sealine, close by, and further up the hamble there are a host of other broakers. While I remember, there is a small sales place in Universal Marina, who has a number of small second hand power boats on sale....I forget the name, but if you head to Universal marina (again, find the directions on the web) you cant miss it...It's 5 mins from deacons.

Hope this is of some help.

Paul.
