I know about Boatshop 24 , Boats & Outboards and Yachtworld. Are there any other good boat sales websites that I should know about? Do all the big brokers/dealers like Ancasta, Essex etc advertise on these sites or do I need to visit their sites separately?

Thanks Rob. I had a 25ft RIB in the UK which I've now sold and I'm possibly looking for something around the same length, maybe upto 27ft, but with a small cuddy and a sea toilet, probably diesel engined. It's got to do 30kts+ and be fun to drive

Thats a no brainer, you want one of these

[/ QUOTE ]Now that's an oxymoron, if I've ever seen one.
I'd rather suggest something like this if you want to have some serious fun with a 27'. Worth a look also at the rest of the site btw, if you're willing to go through the hassle of import from the other side of the pond.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I would probably frighten myself in something like that apart from losing my syrup. A Windy 25 Mirage with a KAD44 engine is good for 40kts and that's plenty fast enough for me

Nah, I don't think you'd be frightened.
'course, you don't cruise at 60+ kts unless water surface allows that - which is rare, unless you're thinking of a lake usage.
But trust me, you'd be much better off at 40 kts on a Fountain or a Formula (which would be doodling around at that speed/rpm) than on the Windy at WOT, anyway.

OK, I quite fancy something like that but as long as I can send the petrol bills to you /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

there are a few Ghibli about, and I can vouch for it being a damn good boat if you want something to chuck about /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gifHas the advantage that its usually a popular seller, so you should be able to sell fairly easily if you price it sensibly. Its also one of those boats you always secretly regret not still owning!
If you expect to be Solent bound, the Mirage would be fine, but I'd prefer to extra size if you think you might to some longer runs.
PM me if you want more info on ghiblis

Why didn't you buy that instead of a boring old Windy then? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There are good reasons why not - aside from fuel bills, I mean.
With air entrapment machines, at three figures speed, the game can and does get really frightening.
Believe it or not, even a soft residual wake left by some other boat, very hard to spot in advance even for a trained eye, can reverse your boating day into an aviation experience...

Thanks gjgm, it's really only a Solent dayboat that I'm looking for and I want to keep the berthing/running costs to a reasonable level. So, whilst a Ghibli is indeed a lovely boat, it's a bit big and expensive to buy and run for me as a second boat/toy.
The Mirage has had really good reviews though. Would it not be capable of a bit of offshore cruising on a fine day?

yes, I m sure the Mirage will be a bundle of fun, especially as being pretty sleek, you might enjoy that close to the water sensation, after a rib.
What you gain in performance, you obviously lose is space, though maybe its more usuable than in a rib, anyway ! You obviously get the security of a closed cuddy, but Id have a think how many people you expect to be onboard,as the cuddy itself is a bit of lost space, in a way. I ve always liked the layouts of the Nimbus Novas, but I have a slight doubt they are as popular here as they ought to be, or as they are up in day-boat-central(Scandinavia).
So, I think the Mirage would fit the bill, as long as you dont expect to be holding parties on it each w/e, in whch case a bit more walkaround might suit better?. Similarly, if its jumping off onto beaches etc, then the is a cuddy really right?
But I guess you ll have a good idea what you ll be doing, after the rib, anyway.

I've looked at a Mirage already (the one in Berthon's yard) and it is extremely bijou. The cuddy is usable for sitting down and sheltering from the rain which is all I really want though quite how anyone except a midget can pee into the bog standing up is beyond me. The seating area extends right around the cockpit and could easily seat 6 including the helm seats and IMHO is a really sociable design. Another thing I like is how the canopy folds down under a flap at the back. Sure it would be nicer if it was all a bit bigger but it's just for day trips
