Boat road transport in Italy

Shipping any unusual load in Italy is an expensive nightmare because the strict transport regulations demand permits for everything. FWIW, in 2009 I sold my 14m Ferretti 46 and the deal involved me paying for the cost of moving it from Sardinia to the N Adriatic. My first thought was to stick it on a truck from one side of Italy to the other but the quote was €8500 and that didn't include the lift/launch costs nor the costs of or preparing it for transport and vice versa and nor the insurance costs. I would expect the transport cost now to be closer to €9500 plus the extras, say €11000 in total but I would be interested to know what your broker comes up with

In my case in 2009, I got a professional crew to move the boat by sea. I can't remember the exact cost but it was significantly cheaper than moving the boat by road

If Mapis wants some help, I may be available :p
LOL, sorry Vas, how could I forget?
Of course, a deviation towards Greece after catching up with BartW would be in order.
After all, if Jez has no time till Oct, we could as well take care of his boat in the meantime....

tut tut tut, you have some obligations in Carloforte remember,
a whole fleet of forum boats there to be entertained this summer,
you can not run away now :)

Well I'll get a quote from the two companies and evaluate.

If Mapis fancies taking it by sea at 7knts that would be an option.
I'd do it but I don't have any spare leave left until October.

As for location, price dictates the boat sadly

Newbie question: why displacement speed? Is this to keep wear and tear down?

Blimey, 7? That's bound to be just a hair more than idle, on the boat you are considering...
I would have thought somewhere in between 8 and 9 - not that it makes a world of difference, mind.
Regardless, if the quotations you will get are too crazy, happy to see if we can make it work. :)

WL would be lucky to get a better offer to move his boat than "Team MM", a lot of experience, common sense all bundled into a super careful package. The boat would arrive in better condition than it left in :)

By the sounds of it he has his eye on Hurricane's jetski, once he gets sick of that I'm sure you'll have his full attention.
He is after all a petrol-head, talks lots about displacement speed, but really wants to go super fast :D
