Boat road transport in Italy

Will update on the boat buying saga shortly, but it looks like my preferred option may have ruled itself out.

I have a second choice but the boat is on the wrong side of Italy. Broker has said he can get a quote to transport it by road to the West coast, a distance of about 300km (190m). Does anyone have any idea what this should cost? Boat is 14m FB. I don't even know what this would cost in the UK
 
Can't help with cost, but guess you will need to be sitting down when you get the quote!. If boat is coming back to UK, best to ship it from Slovenia. Well travelled route which avoids going through Italy. Most common to go to a channel port, but some will ferry across to UK.

Nope, boat is going to spain. Hence my question. To go round the foot I am looking at roughly €6500 in diesel. I understand that UK/Dutch firms don't want to go into Italy. Its already in Italy and will stay in Italy.

Sorry to hear that. Did anything unexpected come out of the survey?
Re. the cost, I'm afraid it's bound to be substantial even if the distance is relatively short, because it's already a size at which an escort is mandatory, and that's what make a big difference (two cars/drivers, on top of the truck).
I'd expect it to be somewhat lower than your estimated fuel cost, but not much I'm afraid...
...not to mention that going round the whole peninsula isn't a bad way to spend your time, if you've got enough of it. :cool:
Anyway, you might drop an email to these folks and ask them a quotation.
Btw, the second is based in the N Adriatic area, and if as I understand that's where the boat is, they should give you a slightly better quote, in theory...

OK. So faced with that fuel bill, road transport may not seem so outrageous! You do however miss out on the opportunity of a nice cruise. Choices, choices.
 
Well, you might as well find someone around here who's happy to have a nice time on your boat on your behalf without pretending to be paid for that... :D :cool:

Let's see... back in 2006, It took us 3 weeks from the N Adriatic to the S of Sardinia to myself and swmbo, but we had some deadlines to meet.
Now that we can be more flexible, we might pootle along our old Croatian cruising grounds, dropping the hook here and there in the nicest Kornati bays, before heading S towards Hvar, Korcula and Mljet - all well worth seeing again.
Maybe with a short deviation in between to Bisevo, near Vis, for a swim in my favourite cave of the whole Croatian coast.
After that, needless to say, it would be rude not to take the opportunity for catching up with BartW and E along the road for a glass of wine or three with a dish of linguine, before heading towards the heel of Italy, and then back N through Messina Strait.
Apropos, it's been a while since I last had a memorable dinner at Filippino restaurant in Lipari (Aeolian archipelago), so a short stay there would be in order.
And From there, as we did back in 2006, it's just a 30 hours or so passage to Teulada marina at D speed, where by the time of our arrival I'm sure that Deleted User and hurricane would be happy to welcome us for a celebration dinner at Trattoria da Gianni, before heading in fleet towards CF.
From there, as you already know from hurricane report, it's just a matter of finding the right weather window for pootling to the Balearics, and from there to Barcelona.

The only fly in the ointment is that for family reasons I must stay at home at least till the end of June, but if you don't mind the wait, I could come to pick you up in Cagliari around the end of July, and welcome you on your own boat in CF.
Unless in the meantime BartW had convinced us to stay a bit longer, that is... :D

Yep. Everything I've ever read or been told is that boat transport through Italy is just not possible - nobody will take it on because of the bureaucracy and associated cost and delay risk. But Slovenia-Austria-Germany-France just to get to SoF does sound expensive, it is a lot of miles.

The only way to do this has to be by sea. Or buy a different boat, that's in a easier location.
 
Well I'll get a quote from the two companies and evaluate.

If Mapis fancies taking it by sea at 7knts that would be an option.
I'd do it but I don't have any spare leave left until October.

As for location, price dictates the boat sadly

Just for the records - and at risk of missing an opportunity... :) - possible it is, to be honest.
Expensive, yes. And also the paperwork is just stupid, but for any decent IT transport company that's business as usual.
But I don't think that delay or other risks are worse than anywhere else.
Fwiw, I had 3 boats trucked around IT, and costs aside I never had any trouble.

Blimey, 7? That's bound to be just a hair more than idle, on the boat you are considering...
I would have thought somewhere in between 8 and 9 - not that it makes a world of difference, mind.
Regardless, if the quotations you will get are too crazy, happy to see if we can make it work. :)
