Thanks BB, that was a nice vid. I recognised some of the scenery going west from Hanko. Were you there during the event?

@AM: Yep, I've posted some pics form the very same area. TBH, there are thousands of similar skerries all around so it's easy mix them even if you've lived there all your life. You must come visit sometime to see for yourself :).
 
I guess we put a couple of hundred hours on them in 2 yrs, you tend to get where you are going very quickly and the fjords suddenly seem very narrow at 80+Knts! In fact its not easy to turn above this speed as once the turn is initiated the water pressure against the inside vertical part of the hull in the tunnel tends to catch the water and it wants to keep turning and if not watched it can spin out which is not recommended. I often was applying opposite steering once a turn was initiated to stop it trying to whip round and bite its own ass. the most amazing part was the extra 50 kts you got by just trimming the drives out, full speed with the drives in was around 70 kts, then when you trimmed out it took off like a scolded cat as you began to get air in the tunnel generating hull lift and the cleaver props were unloaded as they ran on the surface generating that fantastic rooster tail.

The most commonly used free website for this purpose is "www.photobucket.com".
The logic is similar to youtube: you must register first, then upload your pics, and then attach them in your post as previously explained for youtube videos - with two differences:
1) the "tag" to be used (i.e. the text to be included in square brackets) is "img" for pics, as opposed to "youtube" for youtube videos.
2) the link to be included within the opening and closing tags - i.e. between
, in this case - is different.
With youtube, it's an 11 digits code that's given to you from youtube website after uploading a video, as you already know by now. :)
With photobucket, it's a longer link, but you can cut and paste it from photobucket website itself, after uploading your pics.

If I may ask, is it your good self in the video, checking that engine with the straight dry exhausts at startup?
It made me wonder, because even if I love the sound of petrol big blocks, I would have rather used some safety ear muffs, while being so closed to the monster...!

PS: for anyone not familiar with those blocks/exhausts, who might think that the sound in the video was impressive: think again.
I'm pretty sure that's just a tiny fraction of what the real thing delivers in flesh, and not just to the ears but also the belly, btw! :eek:

No I was not there this year but we were in the neighbourhood, I saw som distant rooster tails and heard some thundering sounds but the crew voted for Hanko west harbour instead which is on a safe distance from the related night life. This harbour is not a big compromise as it has one of the best sea food restaurants in the area... Hanko is the gate to the archipelago entering from the east and immediately to the west there is the Hanko-west straight which is known for its sometimes very choppy conditions as can be seen in the video. The skipper on the video must have good local knowledge as he is was taking shortcuts on the wrong side of some of the channel markers...

With some more cold months in front of us, I thought to revamp this thread with yet another DCB video.
Same boat as in my first post, BUT - believe it or not - with another 500 hp on top of the previous 2200, for good measure.
Obviously, they have clients who thought that 160mph was not enough. Only in America....!
I found the 10 seconds or so from 1:21 onward particularly impressive, where the chopper can't keep up with the boat acceleration, and it takes a while before they catch up again!
No room for drones, with these boats...

Thanks for posting. Yep, at 170mph flat out that boat would easily outdrag the R44 they used as the filming platform.
 
How those guys walk with such big cahonies driving through those waves like that.

Love that Allez Vite clip - what a noise! And the fact you can still hear it 150ft away and from INSIDE a helicopter. Cripes.

Those Apaches were incredible boats.

Nice video, thanks for linking it.
Actually, in those conditions, it's even more surprising that the cat seems to keep up pretty well, later in the video.
But the most impressive bit is the audio, with the engines immediately going quiet as soon as the boat takes off.
That throttleman definitely knows his onions!
