Or for a particular member of staff I should clarify.

I keep my inflatable in the Grove Place boat park so I pop in to the bar there on occasions and have always found the prices very good and the service ok although they often rent it out for private does (with no signs outside to say so so you get filthy looks if you walk in). Anyhoo, I was in there this afternoon for a pint with a mate. We sat out on the balcony as you do and there was a family group nearby. (No-one was eating I should add at this point).

A visiting yachty came in, bought a drink and came out onto the balcony. He went right up to the far end as far as you can go, well away from anyone, especially us cos we were right at the other end ;-).

He fired up a small cigar and had a smoke with his drink. He was downwind of everyone and I only noticed cos I was facing him (and I like the odd cafe creme myself when the mood takes me).

He had nearly finished it when a blonde girl in a black t shirt came out to collect glasses and literally screamed at him "OI!... You can't smoke out here! ... Gedout the front!!!". He apologised straight away and went out the front (through the bar by the way ;-)) and put it out. When he came back in obviously embarrassed he spoke to the young lady and said although he had made a mistake, he genuinely had not known and had smoked out there on many previous visiuts ( so have I by the way). I looked about and then saw some small no smoking labels on doors at my end of the balcony but none at his end. So anyway, he politely suggested that she could have come over and spoken to him directly rather than shouting at him over everyone there and she went right off on one on him screaming "Are you seriously trying to be RUDE TO ME????". He again said "No, but I made a mistake which I accept but I don't expect to be shouted at in public like that. She just kept shouting the whole "Are you trying to be RUDE TO ME???" mantra until he just left the bar with a shrug.

Yes he made an apparent mistake but that young lady needs a serious attitude adjustment IMHO.

We drank up and left... What an awful way to treat customers I thought. I've seen her be rude to people before but not so thoroughly strident before. If she worked in my bar today and I had seen that exchange she would be looking for a new job tomorrow.

Shame because we always go there for coffee and sit outside. A few weeks ago we were served by a girl with an attitude problem, probably the same one you saw.
The architect who designed the building with that horrid tube on the balcony right at eye level spoiling the view should be strung up though.
