May I ask why you want to paint your Nicholson 26? It would have been moulded by Halmatic and should have a thick gel coat. Recently I sanded my Fulmar topsides with 240 grit with a light lubricant of water. I use a plant spray and the water stops the paper getting clogged. Then I used 350 and 500, followed by coarse and fine cutting compound. Looks good now.
Recently I chatted with our local glassfibre repair man about the cost of getting a hull my size spray painted. Using Awlgrip he reconned about £6,000. Years ago there was a man at Hamble Point who brush painted boats that were faultless. He was originally trained in Portsmouth Dockyard and worked on Britannia, but suspect he has long retired by now.
If you are coming to the Boat Show, then come and have a chat as Concerto is on berth M156 opposite the Try a Boat section in the marina.
This photo was taken on 31st August, so is very recent.
I can recommend the company called ZEST at Warsash where they will arrange lift-in - with R.K Marine at the storage area just past the Warsash sailing Club on the right side of the Hamble River, they are very good and repaired my old Tiger hull after a yacht collided with her and matched the existing Oxford Blue paint close to perfect. Small company, phone or on the web for a quote and
arrangements. Also had good work done by Clipper Marine at good prices.
