went to the boat show yesterday highlight of the show for my three small girls (10,8.and five) looking round the big boats deciding which bunk is theirs and who has the best colour scheme for the internal fixtures for when daddy stops messing around with small boats and buys a big one.Every stand with the exception of one a uk manufacturer based nr peterborough welcomed them with open arms .this particular gentleman from offshore islands looked down his nose at them and myself (I thing it was him more than the manufacturer) guess which boat l will not be buying. I realise not all manufacturers welcome children on their boats and buy appointment on the larger models is totally understandable but children are the customers of tomorrow.

You think you have it hard. My other half and the kids told the man at Sunseeker that the interior of the Superhawk 48 was "crap" and badly designed, Birchwood didn't fair any better. In her words "You want 200k for this!, but it looks crap" Somehow I think I should have gone alone!

Re: WHY

If you don't tell them, how will they ever know................../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

After all the logic and comparisons of performance the decision to buy a boat is an emotional one and if the wife and kids love a particular style of boat then it's amazing how the data can be skewed to make it the perfectly logical decision after all.
So kids do have a stong say.....Is that the Peterboro' firm thats recently gone bust and been bought out?...You would think they would learn.

We visited on Sunday and here are a few observations.

1) Hall 2 was not very busy. (Salesmen we knew were not too happy)
2) Got on all boats we wanted (including the biggies) without any difficulty and all salesmen were very friendly - even when daughters boyfriend insisted on looking in every cupboard and storage area.
3) Sunseeker had a far higher proportion of foreign visitors than any of the other stands.
4) Azimut's very poorly presented (needed a good polish)
5) I want a Sealine F37
6) Very dodgy steps into cabin on Fairline Targa 34 (I think) - Has shiny plastic edge which was very slippy.
Also the interior styling on the Targa range left me cold (and more importantly from their point of view it did nothing for She Who Holds The Cheque Book)
) Liked the Doral and their staff won the "Most Friendly" prize.
8) Turkish Harbour was a major disappointment.
9) Hall 1 had lots of boats with big poles sticking out of the top - does this make it hard to get them on the plane (not one of them had trim tabs).
10) How the hell do they get the big boats onto the Princess and Sunseeker displays?

Funny how some sails (or sales) people judge you on the way you look/your age/your sex, when myself and my gf were looking to buy our boat we had no end of trouble getting people to take us seriously. Why??? Maybe because my girlfriend was 23 and looks young for it and I was 28 and am a stereotypical surfer to look at (long blonde hair). 'Oh they can't have the money to buy a boat!!!!!'

Credit goes to Inwards at hamble, Powercraft world of Hayling and the Birchwood dealer in Southampton for all there help in finding the girl we use now. But only three dealers/brokers out of the hundreds we tried.... terrible!!!

It felt good at the boat show when they asked 'Do you have a boat' and we reply 'Yes 2, a 40 footer and a 24 footer!!!' (SHOT DOWN IN FLAMES)

Chris

FIXED IT!!! So good being an inny!!!

I must admit we made a bit of effort, SWHTCB wore the family jewels, teenage kids looked smart, daughters boyfriend wore his Cambrige College Rowing Jacket and I wore socks that didn't have holes in. Perhaps this made the difference although it shouldn't.

Martyn

Just a minute though, 23 year old girfriend (looks younger), 28 year old adonis and TWO boats - I've decided I don't like you and you got what you deserved!

Re: ah but

note that the forty footer is a Birchwood. This praps casts doubt on his judgement of gorgeous missus and self, perhaps? Or mebbe they indeed beutiful people and the dealer soldem a Birchwood to gettis own back? OPr they bought the B'wood on purpose cos otherwise they'd get all beaten up in the marina? Hmm?

Re: ah but

You are indeed the fountain of knowledge and wisdom TCM.

Now, about this woman who does everything you need for $50 a day...........

I remember one incident at the Paris Boat Show where a child was not well received. He hadn't realised that you shouldn't use the loo....
