Just heard on the radio that a small boat overturned on the Thames at Shepperton last night, 4 people rescued but still 2 men missing.

Very sad ...

Apparently , they were returning from a party on the island , Reports are saying that the missing chaps are 67 and 70 years old .... :(

Police divers are currently diving the area.

It must

have been updated, I cant see it but I might be looking in the wrong place.

I would be very surprised if it was a dory but you never know and I am not going to speculate etc.

Tragic either way..

I see the DM comments have started, that place is worse than the lounge....

sorry

seen it now, it was on the barge.

Yes thats a dory type tender, if thats the one then something very wrong has taken place (obviously). It takes a hell of a lot to turn one of those.

There was a piece about a horn sounding ? and its interesting to note that all the folk interviewed (that I have seen) have been from the main land and giving a very one sided view of island life.

Agree with your last comment. We have one across from us who is... in need of educating. There seems to be a tendancy for jealousy and opinionism, all without experience. Our grumpy old neighbour is not worth it.

The News will be looking for soundbites - if it was her it would be "they are all evil, I hate them, blah blah blah". Very publishable but useless.

Personally, I am looking forward to hearing what the survivors say. I suspect the other boat is a red herring as a wash sinkage or collision would have been mentioned already.

Well whatever happened its sad to think of of two famlies going through this.

It seems the River claimed quite a few lives last year.

The missing helmsman appears to be Keith Lowde a music industry figurehead. It was his boat with wife and dinner guests aboard.

Bearing in mind what has happened , the two residents 'helping' in the last picture look like they could become statistics themselves ...

Two of them , standing up in an 8 foot boat , paddling along with one oar from side to side.

'Treacherous Currents' eh ?

Yes, that last picture of the residents helping did look very dodgy.
It definatly looks like a Dory, they said it was 8`, that is small for 6 adults. Having said that, we've got a 13` Dory and its extremely stable, I would say almost impossible to overturn on flat water.

Sighting last night at the top of the weir, helicopter was out for about an hour but nothing. The Sussex Police RIB trailer were stood down yesterday due to funding. They were on the way back to collect RIB today and another sighting was reported by rowing club so they searched again with Surrey Fire boat but nothing. Both boats have now gone home. They have 3 sonar images which show something but other than that it is all inconclusive. I heard yesterday that the police asked the EA to close the weir not realising the consequences. I hope he turns up soon. The 4m Dory's that we sell are only rated to a max of 4 persons, once they are under-way any jolting movement e.g. person standing up suddenly can cause it to capsize, over-loaded is obvioulsy catastrophic.
