A nice day's sailing indeed. Great to have the pictures, would be nice to hear the conversations too, or are they not fit for younger ears?

Almost nothing is picked up, which isn't too surprising as it's in a waterproof case. And the camera being mounted on the pushpit gives a really strange audio effect of picking up vibrations of blocks spinning etc which get transmitted through the deck.

It's good enough to use in the protest room, but wouldn't make for great entertainment.

Is that shot with one of the GoPro cameras? We've just bought one, would love some tips on using them on boats.

Yes, shot on a Go Pro. I bought the attachment for mounting it on a mountain bike, which fits the pushpit just fine. I have ideas for making a self levelling mount, but not made that happen yet.

That looked a lot of fun, I used to do that 20yrs ago in J24's sigma 33's and 38's. Has it changed much? Only in the detail and ££ I guess. Well done for a wining looked a smooth crew.

Having to put a camera in a waterproof 'case' is a hassle.

Sanyo/Panasonic do the waterproof 'xacti' with HD which means you get good quality picture and sound (even under water. )
I went under my pals boat in the Med' this summer and filmed the small growths of barnacles which persuaded him to snorkel and claen off some parts with a spatula.
By cleaning the prop we gained a knot at cruising rev's.

Who supplies the mountain bike attachment?

BTW, did that superb photo of yours taken on the RTI get published anywhere? - one of the best of the year, I'd say.

Not that I know of. Did send a hi-res copy to the owner for a donation to the RNLI though, so I think it's hanging on a wall somewhere.

With the GoPro it's really the housing that is the key to it. It has its drawbacks in terms of sound being quite muffled. It's auidable - but not really "enjoyable" due to the boat sounds. However, you don't get any wind noise which is good.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDaEwBYsyBc I left the sound on this one from the week before.

Bought the mountain bike attachment from Active cameras, who I found on google. Pretty sure it's made by GoPro though.

Thanks for posting, looks like you had fun (if you weren't taking it too seriously).

Good to see how the "pros" do things, quite informative.

Now I know the difference between racers and cruisers. I would have called "cap overboard" and gone around to pick it up. I hope Phil was insured against his loss :D

Hamble River Sailing Club clearly heard news of his loss.

The prize that evening was a hat.
