boat on the bank near porchester castle

Was there anyone on board? If not, it seems much more likely to have come off a mooring.

Pete

i heard its lines broke so no-one on board, via the grape vine though so potentially nonsense, hopefully covered by insurance? although Shamaya's comment suggest the mooring are not set up correctly in that area?

Why "potentially nonsense"? Mooring arrangements breaking are by far the most likely reason for a boat to end up on the shore of the harbour, especially at this time of year when people aren't sailing much and strong winds are common.

Did his post say something about that before it was edited? The current text doesn't make any such suggestion.

yeah the post mentioned they needed to be checked professionally / laid professionally or something to that effect

but i meant i heard it on the grape vine so could be "potentially nonsense", you know idle chatter, unreliable source etc, i heard it broke its lines, but could have been something else hence me asking, apologies English is not my first language - it makes sense in my head.

I recall seeing last year a mooring in Chichester Harbour near Prinsted which had dragged through the mud and the yacht ended up still attached and on the beach by the wall so sometimes the lines remain attached and its the mooring which has moved. I suspect this is rare in Chi though but does happen. Very sad for the owner but I had thought as has been said that there were previous similar events with vessels beaching at Porchester around the same time as the Chi one I observed.

A few of them dragged hen that happened. The boat, a macwester, was still in Thornham earlier this year. Luckily mine was out of the water but I'm sure it drifted a few feet across the yard! I was staying aboard it that night.
