I've finally got round to filling in the form to complete our Part 1 Registration.

A couple of queries.

1) I thought there was a new process for submitting a Part 1 registration that allowed docs etc to be uploaded. I don't think I imagined this. Does anyone have any details?

2) Our boat was originally called "Andiamo of Littlehampton" and is currently on the SSR with the name "Andiamo". The boat was once on the Part 1 register under the name "Andiamo of Littlehampton" and port of "Poole" but this lapsed a few years ago.

I don't have any affinity with Littlehampton but I guess it was added to make the name unique. Whilst I'm pretty confident that the name "Andiamo of Littlehampton" is unique (it's not on MARS), I do need to give the MCA some alternative names. I'm happy to keep the name "Andiamo" so do I just give the MCA some alternative versions e.g. "Andiamo of Southampton", "Andiamo of London", etc?

Also, what do I complete for "Port of Choice"? Does it have to be a UK port or can I specify a foreign one (e.g. Palma, Sant Carles, etc)?

Finally, at what point do you have to 'carve' the vessel and what does this carving / plate look like on a GRP boat. Is it possible that the boat is still carved from the old Part 1 reg (the vinyl name on the back just said "Andiamo")?

Pete

If you just want uniqueness add a letter at the end and "drop it" in practice. As you know my boats were called Match Q and Match Z until Match finally became available on part 1 register. So use Andiamo A and do the A in vinyl with the rest in S/S to de emphasise the A. The letter cannot be a Roman numeral c d l m v x.

Port must be off a list of uk ports on mca website. About 30 choices. I picked london. As you cruise you fill in lots of forms at port offices. London is easy and all officials can spell it.

Carve and mark isn't policed hard. You can dremel it into a piece of wood or plastic say 100mm x 60mm and screw that to e/room bulkhead. Whatever. Nobody cares Pete. You self certify that it has been done

Pete, for balance, you could try a larger Hampton?

and what does this carving / plate look like on a GRP boat.

On ours, I popped down to the local shoe menders shop where they supply bespoke laminate engraving.
For just a few quid they made a nice laminate plate that I screwed onto the boat.
I suppose it should have been riveted but "Hey Ho".
Looks professional.

My 'Addiamo' letters are only about 75mm. I'll have to make the 'F' or whatever about 20mm!

Also, for Part 1 do you need to display the Port?

Finally, how did you know 'Match' had become available?

Not making this up: I used to know a man called Hugh Jones who lived in the relatively untroubled village of Little Coxswell

Honestly.

I did, too

:encouragement:

You may want to spell check the name though !

What tonnage though ? Displacement; Deadweight; Gross; Thames; etc

Does Part 1 still require an official measuring by a qualified measurer, even for a previously registered boat (in case it has shrunk or grown) ?

1. So do that. There is a min height for p1 letters but isn't enforced.
2. Yes with p1 you must display the port. Again, little letters
3. Contacts :D

gross tonnage, and yes it needs measuring (so called tonnage survey)
