Just had great service from HFE signs and very cheap £10 for 5 words!:) 15p per 2" letter:):) even got some for the outboard while I was at it.

Nothing to do with me just thought other people might like to know, they are a vehicle vinyl signwriter (who did the signs for my work van) so cost far less than anything specifically for yachts.

That does sound good value, much cheaper than the lot I normally use and I must admit I was slightly horrified by the price of the last graphics I had done a couple of months ago; SAC had better shake their ideas up, thanks for that !

I can't see why you'd get individual letters cut when we have the magic of computers available. Just make up your name the way you want it, email as a jpg to a vinyl cutter and get it posted back. Easier to get it straight if it's already on a carrier paper.

Couldn't find anyone near me in Surrey that was competitive BarryH - where are you? May need your services soon!

Used this guy instead - very good ;)

Me, Surrey. Boat, Chichester. To give an idea. I did a bit of vinyl work for forumite in Switzerland. 3 names posted recorded, he sent me 20 quid. I asked for less!!

I've just used that link to see what the names on my boat would cost. It came to, what would be, the cost of a 20 mtr roll of vinyl, circa £30 excludung P&P. Add that and your closer to 35 quid for 2 names on a boat. No wonder I'm not rich!!!!!!

10 quid is really cheap.Wonder what vinyl they use?
I experemented using 4 series vinyl vs 7 series (as i use) and 4 series only lasted a season in marine environment. Also can't see how its viable as the design and weeding take time.

I have found banner grade to be the longest lasting for boats. It also works well on life belts and inflatables.

KPMF have introduced 10 year which seems to be giving good results. There are also some very good wood effecs coming from them as well

If you look at that site the choice of font is very limited. Limited to basic fonts. Once the weeding lines have been put it its a matter of a couple of mins per name. The site is designed for ease of use for the signmaker, i'll use that term loosely here, so as to just give a few standardized easy wedded fonts and effects. All pretty basic really. But then boat names are ab out as basic as it gets.

The letters come on backing paper, sticking them on individually would be a complete nightmare.

The website and the lettering part are pretty basic, but they can produce what ever you want from a Jpg. As I said in my original post they did the vinyl for my van including logos etc. I simply posted the link to the lettering bit as that is what I had used. I only wanted a name, port and SSR number nothing fancy, which is what most boat names are. The fonts on the site are the basic windows ones but they say they have 1000s on file, as it was we found it hard enough to choose one.

Regardless of other peoples opinions, I still thought they were very good value and thought it worth passing this info on to other forumites.

This thread is very close to becoming an advert.:(

Thread Drift Alert

Weeding "feckless" above must have been a female dog.

Can you suggest anywhere that scalable graphics (such as flames) can be downloaded? I use WinPCSign.

Can't see what you mean. [about weeding]
I supplied that as a .jpg image. The signman had it done in minutes.

I did warn about the thread drift! I was referring to the twists and turns in the font, make it much harder to remove the unwanted vinyl: weeding.

No criticism implied, it's a nice design. Mind you, in Ireland it may mean something totally different :D
