Dear All,

being a long time forum member I'm reaching out to you all. After years of hard work and incredibly challenging times we are finally launching our KickStarter. To Hugo and the team at MBY, I know this isn't an advertising platform, but a little push for a long time reader and even contributor would help us a great deal in this adventure! Also please ask any questions, I'd be glad to answer!

Out of interest what has your system got that similar systems from Garmin, Yacht Sentinel, BRNKL and others havent got? Serious question because I'm thinking of installing a monitoring system on my boat this winter

Thank for asking. First it's the outright purchase price. Sentinel and others you're looking at 500$ just for the base unit no sensor included. We're around 200$ with a sensor included. Then most are having to be connected to NMEA, you're talking pulling wires etc. Then there's the 4G contract dedicated only to the base unit. We're connecting to a hotspot. If you have wifi at the marina you won't even have to get a contract. Then there's the integration. Some are just sending sms which doesn't the into an App. Also, Garmin doesn't even offer what you're looking for. Hope this helps!

Thanks for reply. A couple of comments. First Garmin have recently introduced their On Deck monitoring system

Garmin OnDeck™ Hub

Second I dont know whether your system can only communicate through a wifi hotspot or whether 4G is an option. In many European marinas the marina internet signal is pathetic and many boat owners rely solely on the local 4G network for internet access

Alright, so, a few points.
  • The Garmin OnDeck Hub is 1500$ here in Australia, ouch. And that's just the hub, no sensor included.
  • Yes our product only uses Wi-Fi. But remember a product like Garmin OnDeck also uses 4G. So just get a 4G contract and stick it into a Mi-Fi. They go for 50£ on Amazon. The advantage is you can then use it for other things on your boat!
  • The Garmin hub only gathers NMEA data, so you will have to get an NMEA battery sensor and yes, you will have to pull wires.
  • Finally, you will have to pay a Subscription, a monthly fee that is, for the Garmin Hub to work.
Hope this sheds light!

Fair enough. Drop me a PM when your system comes onto the UK/European market
