Boat Model Identification - Glastron 17ft Speedboat

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and joined to ask a question, hope someone could help me out here, I'm buying a speedboat tomorrow and I'm not sure of the exact model of boat, the seller has only posted a limited number of photos so not really sure what the inside looks like..

Anyway if someone knows what model this boat is can you let me know so that I can google it?

Not sure of model, but looks like a big Johnson outboard on the back, I think I would be more worried about that than the model of glastron which actually doesn't matter that much, the boat is what it is. The engine however is what will cost you money, parts supply on these old on johnsons is getting hard work. On old (70's & 80's) speedboats it is the engine that's what you need to do the research on.

Yeah thanks, its a 140HP V4 Johnson, sitting up for about 5 years, I'm getting the whole boat for the price of the hull anyway as a project boat so not too worried about it, the seller just didn't post any pictures of the interior so I wasn't sure if it had the bow seating area..

Went through my archive but didn't find the original brochure.

However a SSV-176 brochure from 1979 was there.

So I got the boat today, the interior needs to be completely stripped out and redone down to the foam.. all the wood was rotten, fabrics and seats completely destroyed by being left outside with no cover for 5 years..

But the outside is in superb condition, no holes and just 1 small scrape.

This model doesn't have the seating area in the bow unfortunately.

We connected up a new battery and tried to use the power tilt but it only made a clicking sound then the sound of a spark then no click at all, any one know whats up with that?

I think you need to be more worried about the hull rather than the engine,
If it's been left open for 5 years the floor and the stringers and the transom core will be rotted out, drill some small holes in the transom low down from the inside, don't go all the way through and check if the shavings are dry

Ok I did that and the shavings were dry but looked as if they had been damp, there is no shake or movement in the transom and it seems pretty solid, ie no bending ect. but the stringers are not in good shape at all, I pulled up the floor and the fiberglass around some of the cross sections had come off and the wood inside disintegrates to the touch! I may just put down marine ply as the floor and hope for the best lol
