I have just recently completed my first year of ownership of a Centaur, had a good season but am lifting the boat out on Saturday. I have a very limited experience of boat maintenance but I wish to do some work over the winter. When you work on a car you can buy a Haynes manual. Can anyone reccomend a general boat maintenance/repair manual written in a relatively straightforward format, preferably with good pictures or diagrams.

Try Keyparts at Watford, they do manuals for most popular engines, they cover all the associated conponents, wiring diagrams etc: but not the boat manufacturers installed equipment (ie-cabin lighting, fridge etc)

A good general book is "Boatowners Mechanical and Electrical Manual" by Nigel Calder, which describes itself as " How to maintain, repair and improve your boat's essential systems" ISBN 0-7136-4291-2
Not only covers engines and electrical but also spars, rigging, winches etc.
