HI Guys

Just wondering if anyone can recommend an android (or web based) boating log - looking for something to log trips / running time as well as all maintenance items so I get reminders when everything is due to be pulled apart again! I had a look on the play store but nothing is jumping out at me as any good?

Thanks

Steve

It's been considered but I was looking for something that reminded me of upcoming maintenance etc a notebook doesn't do that although I prefer the simplicity of just writing something down...

I have a business that is busy most of the time so get caught up in it and don't always pay attention to what needs doing. A reminder popping up or letting me know what is due for the month would help me schedule it in..

During the space race the US spent millions trying to develop a pen that would work in the Zero gravity of space.... The Russians just used a pencil

I second the idea of a small book and pen (as we have gravity) and just look at it from time to time people need to rely far less on their phones

There seems to be an ever increasing obsession with electronic devices and records. Some people would not survive without them.
I must admit my work would grind to a halt without computers . However there is a place for simple methods.

As an example my employers have recently decided we should have electronic business cards. I have yet to meet anyone else who does so . It's a lot easier to hand out a card.

I agree as for electronic business cards this should be on the bottom of all the emails you send

I have added the link to my email signature but the company did not include the business card on the re-branded email signatures by default.
We are not allowed to have printed cards.

I just log everything to a spreadsheet, and scheduled items / things to order listed in electronic notebook (keep-android).

You could also use outlook calendar to remind you of things and set a reoccurrence if nesscary.

Utter rubbish, there are many detailed debunkings of this myth (use google) but both the US and the USSR eventually used pens produced by Fisher Pens. Still the gullible keep passing it off as fact.

Indeed, by both the US and the USSR, hence the word 'eventually' in my post.

Edited to add: AIUI the Fisher pen was also privately funded - no NASA investment in its development.

Well back on topic.. thanks for the education...

A notepad is fine and works. My question was around electronic logging. I do not have an obsession with my phone or technology, it's just always with me for my business and therefore I do use it as required. My reasoning behind the electronic version was that I can access it from all over. Unlike the UK where you can nip to the local dealer etc, in Perth if you ask for parts you are told 3 weeks minimum unless it's filters.. so by having a central log with hours, inventory etc that I can access from the home pc, phone, tablet etc I can at least order correct parts ahead of time and also Dont need to be on the boat to find out service items are due..

My business and a 2 year old means I am time poor with days over 15 hours common place working late into the night once the little bloke is asleep. I'm just trying to find a way that works for me, but judging by the responses or lack of recommendations I guess a fancy Google sheets spreadsheet, will have to be created to do the job..

Steve, Google "boat maintenance log app" there are quite a few. I was going to post a link if I found anything but there are quite a few so easier to just google the same term I did.

Hi MrB

Thanks it was the first thing I did but they are either trip logs or maintenance logs there doesn't seem to be a combined one as mentioned in the op.. I was just trying to avoid installing them all and trying them if someone was already using one.. and was happy with it. Tbh I thought there would be more around and being used.. so I'm fairly surprised.

I use both.

On board I have a RYA Logbook, other makes are available, and i run a Google blog on the net. The blog is really for my benefit, but as I am gearing up for some long voyages I am practising using it so friends and family can read about my adventures. There are also some unpublished pages that I can access with notes on stuff, be that the size of the screws in the heads or the pubs not to visit on my next a particular port.
