I am currently restoring a classic S & S sloop built in 1942 in Havana Cuba, althought much of the interior is complete I still require some interior fittings, could anyone give me a list of boat jumbles which I might find something at and are some better than others?

Regards

Ross

Most of the sailory comics list jumbles coming up. Sadly I have never found much in the way of decent fittings. I have been tring for 18 months to get a set of bronze fairleads. Save the travelling time and take a bar job to save up cash for Classic Marine. (No connection)

I have some friends who until very recently, when they retired, ran a secondhand bookshop specialising in yachting books and also a classic boat - they took stands at most of the bigger boat jumbles.

Over the years, my boat, as well as theirs, benefitted from some first class "finds", eg a pair of pre-WW2 Highfield levers, but they tell me that the boat jumbles are very different now - little gear turned out of garden sheds and attics is for sale, and there are many more "professional" stands offering discounted rope and plastic bits and so on.

Beaulieu would be the natural choice, and maybe Chatham, but don't go with great expectations!
