Boat Insurance

Hiya
Hope you're well petal

I use Pantaenius cos I quite like them. They quoted me 10k and GJW quoted 15k; both perfectly good firms service wise but I find GJW's rates ridiculous

Are you in Barca currently?

Speaking personally, virtually anyone except Haven Knox-Johnson :(

Pricing aside, I'd have thought Pantaenius are more likely to be suitable for a boat like yours (ie largeish, premium manufacturer) than GJW - though I'm insured with GJW myself and they're great for bog standard mass production boats like mine.

Thank you guys.

jfm, I'm just fab thanks. I'm in the UK right now but back in Barca with Mr B on Sunday week.

Ah, I'll just miss you then. I'm planning stopover maybe next Weds night in Barca, en route from Valencia (where my boat is being offloaded from ship) to Antibes. Would you recpmmend Vell or Olympico? (I know them both landside from zillions of business trips to Barca). Can I just rock up and get a 24m berth or should I book? I need a lot of fuel maybe 5000l so is one or t'other better on that score?

Me too, and they have been great in my experience. Very competitive price (sub £300), and made a hassle free claim last year, s a happy customer.

They have a good reputation generally, which is why I preceded my remarks with "Personally".

It was a lengthy saga which left me seriously out of pocket, and which I recounted on here a while back. Evidently they have lots of satisfied customers, but I will never use them again and I think it's only fair to warn prospective clients that not everyone thinks they are perfect.

Pantaenius

I believe they have created an exceptionally loyal (to the point of insanity) public because they are known to pay claims. The problem is that most of these claims are generally small and at the end of the day not that many boats have accidents. Unfortunately for the even smaller percentage of people and boats who do run into real trouble (and thus it would be expensive for them) they will fight tooth and nail not to pay. This was my experience-and was an exceptionally expensive one for me too. They simply refused to pay anything. In fact it was not only expensive it was completely unprofessional and one i would not wish on anyone else. Finding this an appaulling experience i mention it to most people i meet and now know at least 20 similar such stories from all over, Germany,Sweden and the UK. Be warned legal action is very, very expensive and so most people simply 'let it go'. I would not recommend them. Sic.

I ve used dutch company "Delta Loyd" through the Belgium office "Huysman yacht insurance", and I am very satisfied with the service and pricing

I pay (all risk)

4K for 70ft 400k valued boat (20y old)
and
420 euro for 28ft 100k valued boat

last year they payed the partial replacement of an engine which was only just out of warranty, 13k bill !!!
where the forum agreed that Volvo should have payed that bill !

so yes, I can only give positive advice on them

I use Denovo Marine Underwriting who will insure all craft, but "prefer" larger, higher value boats.

They are fairly competitive, but the level of service is simply second to none. No big call centre, just the girls in the office, knowledgeable rep on the road and everyone is truly helpful.
Claims process is good and easy and they will work hard to make sure it is as painless as possible... I know, I claimed and they actually guided me to get it through.

Please mention my name, Tom Bettle, as your "introducer". It helps with my own premiums! ;-)

Hi everyone :D

Can you give me some suggestions for companies I can use to insure Tommy please ?

I'm off out for a couple of hours and will check this when I'm back

P. I know that your only 28 :) .............. but Mr B will comply with the regulations for SAGA. I find them reasonable and I know that HLB has had to use their services on a couple of occasions :)
