its that time of year currently with Craft Insure had a quote from Traffords who are £300 cheaper.

who do you use? are they good?
any good recommendations?
anyone to stay away from?

The cheaper ones do you know what they dont cover that the more expensive ones do?

I know there is no point trying to save a few pounds and then when you have a small problem and you need them your not covered. Im not looking for the cheapest Im looking for one that covers most things and is value for money.

Im paying around £1000 for a 36ft boat.

I use Bishop Skinner because they were very helpful in settling a couple of claims a few years ago. They will also discount their premium if you can show you can get an equivalent quote elsewhere

They should all tell you the cover so you need to invest a bit of time and read them through for comparison. I got 4 quotes for my new boat last year and it took an evening to make the comparisons before going with Bishop Skinner.

Another vote for Bishop Skinner who have settled claims promptly, even pointing what I'd overlooked.
They paid to lift out and fit a spare prop which was much quicker than repairing the old one. They paid for that too and a second lift. When I last heard they were going to sue MDL for negligence!

Amazing service. Do stop penny-pinching and wake up to the real needs of boating.

I'm with Traffords, don't hear a lot about them but settled a £500 claim a few years ago with little fuss.
£330 for a 28ft sports cruiser.

Go back to them with your other quotes,We are paying substantialy less for only slightly smaller(but much older ?) boat.
One thing to watch with any insurance Co is their requirements regards age and proof of survey.

I think I'd rather have the £300 in my pocket that some one elses !

It should say who you'd be insured with .... if it's Lloyds or another big insurer you've heard of them jump at it.

I think you'll find that Bishops Skinner aren't the insurer they're only a broker - normally for Axa !

I'm with Trafford's but today I received a quote £100 more than a recent Bishop Skinner quote, so back to Bishop Skinner this year for me.
I don't like Traffords (agent Cheers) way of renewal quotes, not stating the no claim bonus so making it difficult to switch because the new company need written proof of NCB. I won't let it put me off though.
Also check the small print with Traffords re fire extinquisher positions and leaving the boat unmanned at anchor. They are happy to change the clauses for free but it needs to be done.

Knox Johnson. I had a claim about 6 years ago when I destroyed a gearbox on a submerged log. No quibble, no messing around. Fixed it and got paid. Good value too. They have my vote

craft insure £1050
bishop skinner £1265
Traffords £714

There is a difference in costs with these 3 still waiting for others to come back.

If Traffords cover the same as all the others then Im saving, if they cover less (I will go through what they cover) then its not a saving
