Just bought my first boat without a survey. I'm happy it's in very good nick, very well looked after and been shown what to look for by a boatbuilder friend. Sellers have been able to produce receipts almost back to the day it came out of the mould and it has been sailed on freshwater for the past few years. If it were a car it would be a genuine 'one careful lady owner'!
My question is about insuring it. The boat is 1979/1980 build and all the insurers I've looked at online want a survey on any boat over 30 years old (some of them say over 20 years old).
What are my options and what sort of figure will I be looking at for an 'insurance survey' in the middle of England?

Yachting 24, underwritten by Pantaenius (who have a very good reputation), will insure the older boat comprehensively & without a survey, all arranged online. E.g. insured my 40 year old Vega with them for £156. If you only want third party there's a few online providers that'll cover you for less than £100. Enjoy your boat...:)

Sorry! Yachting 24. All done online using their online valuation which came to within £50 of the price I'd paid. I also had a quote from Mercia Marine who don't ask for surveys on anything under 23 feet.
