Anyone spoken to their insurance company regarding change of in commission dates for their boat?
I'm with GJW and usual in commission is something like 1st April to 30th October with a layup period over the winter. The excess goes up if outside of these dates.
Have the companies seen sense and not applied any penalties during the virus lockdown?

I'm with GJW and emailed them because our lift in has been cancelled so my boat is ashore for the season. I got an instant reply saying that my insurance policy will cover me during the period.

Yes I spoke to Y Yacht after I'd brought the boat back form her winter marina berth early.

Barring in mind I emailed them after I got back and informed them of the change of dates (agreed mooring April to October inclusive, ashore or marina berth over winter) I received a reply thanking me for letting them know and no charge.

I like Y Yacht Insurance.

Why is higher risk ashore than afloat?

Too late to speak to them after making my post, but will try tomorrow!

I was with them for a long time when we were in principle CI/N France based, but things got complicated when we took our MoBo down to the Med but kept a yacht in the UK.

Like a lot of people we insured with Pants (at a cost) but life was easier.

I found GJW to be very fair despite various changes of permanent location with, from memory, just an admin fee charged for a change of policy. They also dealt with an own fault claim within 24 hours.

An increase in excess wouldn't be a deal breaker, not being rude but do you have a boat likely to be targeted ashore?

Lots of expensive instrument? What's the security like? How likely is an increased excess going to impact on you?

Not preaching but you need to know what you'll do if they do increase the excess otherwise the question is academic.

We are with GJW. We stay afloat in a marina all year. There is no additional premium for being afloat all year.
Fair winds

I'm normally on a swinging mooring for six months and ashore for six months. GJW charged me a small extra premium - about 10% - when I tried having a winter in a marina instead of ashore.

Just to confirm that GJW (the whole staff are working from home !) have said this morning that my boat (insured with them for all year round afloat) is comprehensively insured while she remains on shore due to CV19 restrictions.

They could not have been more cheerful or helpful in going through the details.

IMHO less likely to fall over when in the water. For my part, having experienced the shuddering and shaking my boat was doing while on the hard, I decided that the best place to overwinter was on the pontoon, lifting out in early February for maintenance tasks. My insurance with Craftinsure is unaffected by this arrangementand my berthage contract charge is the same whether in the water or ashore.

Received this message from GJW on Friday morning:

Thank you for your mail

Under these circumstances we confirm your vessel will remain insured under our Policy, once this is all over your launch will also be covered.

Best regards

Nice to know and puts mind at rest, Thank You GJW.
