Boat in build pics (Squadron 78)

For the delivery trip I have to use marinas becuase I cannt gurantee meeting any appoointment times for tanker deliveries. In fact my whole trip plan above has been torn up 5 mins ago becuase due to congestion in the prot I'm now being told I will unload 1400 on Friday not 0800. Bludy shipping!

In France on my home berth I always do tanker refills. My berth allows a tanker to drive right up to the transom. Hitherto i have used www.fioul83.fr and found them very good, and occasionally I have used Onyx, but I'd be pleased to hear of alternatives

Have you looked at YCO Group www.ycogroup.com who offer a variety of services including fuel supply. I cannot vouch for them personally.

That`s what I like...keep it simple..Red blob, Blue blob.:D;)

:-) Yup, who needs lats and longs

I found one more pic of red blob beach. The camera is pointing due east in this one

I don't get it either mjf

AIS coverage on Portugal coast is poor, and that explains lack of info. There was AIS data as she passed Lisbon, but nothing on the Algarve coast till now, at Gibraltar. Believe it or not she is approaching Gib at 4.8kts. She is going into a headwind F6 and the only explanation I can guess is that the captain seemed very cautious when I spoke to him about damaging/carrying my boat (he said it was his first time with a big boat on deck (despite fact he was about 50yo) and told me he would be taking it very carefully!

She has not been anywhere else; she has sailed directly from Soton to where she is now, but at 6-7-8 knots only. Quite a lot at 6 knots.

His AIS is now saying eta Sagunto 8am this Friday 15th April. I guess there is no point arriving before then as he cannot make Thursday evening now anyway. Provided I unload fairly quickly that morning my trip plan as per above still works. I can amend it lots of ways if the timings slip. Ultimately all i ever wanted was to have the boat in Antibes for Easter holidays and to be fair that deadline looks like it will be hit, so PSP are doing what I asked of them; full marks to them. (I have guests on board over Easter, and am meeting up with NickH, Hurricane and the s'seeker predator Warlock as featured in Hurricane's posts)

But I agree with you that I don't see the economics here - this ship left Soton 3pm last tuesday and will have taken nearly 10 days to do a 4-5 day trip.
I do not think the owner will do this again.

The average is 6.6knots to Europa Pt. and the long way around the IoW too.

At least Match is now in the Med. whilst the other options are not yet :-)

Well, you gotta remember the ship was going from Rotterdam to Greece anyway, with an empty deck. If you subtract a guess for port fees, cranes, PSP margin, the ship owner is getting an additional €40k for calling in at Soton and Sagunto, and spending say 3 extra days at sea due to slow running caused by captain nicely looking after my boat. Financially that's prob a good deal for them. If they'd taken the Sealine F46 and put it in front of mine on the deck, they'd have done even better financially

I totally agree your last sentence. All's well that ends well! Ship is now about 310nm to go, so unload day after tomorrow looks pretty firm, woohoo

My revised plan is:
1. unload friday afternoon Sagunto
2. Go to SC marina (70nm) where Hurricane has already introduced me and enabled a late refule at 7pm or whatever.
3. Early night and get up first light Saturday and do antibes in one shot, 350nm, aiming to arrive at midnight Saturday approx. Plenty of bolt holes and fuel stops en route but hopefully I wont need them.

Winds in golfe du Lion look good for saturday - no mistral and just F3/F2 gradient wind (easterly, so wind on the nose, but the waves will be small i hope)

Should be a great trip.

Your new avatar looks like it's one of the pix used in the article in May MBY.

The end of this magnificent journey from order, through build and finally to her home berth is in sight, thanks for sharing it jfm, thoroughly enjoyed it.;)

Rotterdam?

Sorry i thought the bulk cargo was Oslo pulp? I missed the R'dam call on my radar ;-)

I might be wrong. It started Oslo for sure. I then think it called in NL somewhere, but i might be wrong (I had so many ships being offered to me that week it gets confusing!). In any case, it was still passing by southampton en route to Greece

Do you know if the Sealine F46 is heading for SC?
We are expecting one - the one that was at SIBS last year.

Don't know. AFAIK it was trying to get to Palma, but as most ships stop there to unload boats it could still have had final destination as SC for all I know. Owner very much wanted it there for Easter I believe. It might be on a lorry now for all I know

Jfm - seems to me that the owner has funded 3 extra port days with delays and the slow steaming so he must be in that for 7 days hire. Then port call expenses x 2 .
PSP I am sure pick up the crane and stevedore costs both ends.

When you add the componants I don't think there will be a lot of change from your 'private delivery service' charter.

Interesting to hear that. I've no idea what the opportunity cost hire rate is of that ship for 7 days so I'm v happy to go by what you say, but it's interesting to hear they don't make much money on this when there is only one yacht on the deck. I think you're right that my job has added 5-7 days to the ship's timetable

I have been following this thread since it started lasy year and it now looks like Match will pass our marina in Puerto de Mazarron during the night. Out here at present. Good luck with the rest of her journey JFM.
Rob.

Yup. Just past almeria now, so it will pass Mazarron in the early hours tonight. small world. It wont disturb you as it is travelling so slowly :-)

I just got a delivery of Caterpillar spare from finnings (the UK Cat agents) so I'm ready for the delivery trip in case any breakdowns. I'm very surpirsed at the pricing now that I have the itemised invoice in front of me. These are genuine Cat parts, prices inc UK VAT:

£20.58 each for quite large spin-on tin can final fuel filter for the engine. Seems nice and cheap. Bit disappointing it is painted yellow not white.

£37.51 each for alternator V belt - a bit pricey but ho hum I can live with it

£308 each, yes ***frigging £308 EACH*** for raw water pump impellers. Jeeze! FFS! This is ridiculous... And I ordered two of the sodding things!

This might make you feel better (or not possibly), I just got my spares kit from MAN prior to my trip too:

4 Fuel pre filters
4 Engine Fuel filters
1 sea water pump impeller
1 water pump cover gasket/seal
1 V Belt

£643.89! .......... and you need 2 of these per boat

add oil filters and it jumps to £754.82

add gearbox oil filters, rocker gaskets, and air filters (x2)and it leaps to £2517.82

Happy boating. :)
