Sorry Wakeup and Tom. I was at factory last Friday (saw hull#1 of Targa50, nearly finished, too. Veeeery nice boat). I've put some pics below but sorry I don't have time to write much. Boat really is nearly finished and I'm still very pleased with the build. Up close it is really beautifully done. The pics look like it's nowhere near finished becuase things are covered in protective material but actually it really is less than 3 weeks from the finish now. Engine room is 100% done and beautiful, hydraulics all commissioned, cabin ceilings are in, TVs all in, beds all done bar a few trim pices, etc. I'll be back in a week or so and try to get better pics then - these are a bit rushed

Looks great! That platform looks huge, is that bigger than spec?

What goes in the open panels on the transom platform?

Platform is huge, but it's standard. My sons want a full size table tennis table on there :-/ I was worried it's too big and will catch too much sea but FL assure me it's ok and doesn't get whacked by waves, and that the mount arms are strong enough. It has an aluminium 4x2 welded box grid and set into the GRP during lay up. The 4 holes are for teak panels with drain slots, but yeah glass would be cool. Easy to retrofit; watch this space. 2 pics below. Also, at top left of the factory photo below you can see the two stab blades

Eagle-eyed viewers will see from the pic immediately above there is no passerelle, which is unusual at this late stage in the build. I'm having a non standard passerelle, 1m longer than usual, automatic stanchions and in mirror polished s/s not white powder coat. It's been quite a challenge for FL to fit it in but they've done it. Besenzoni custom made it, but when it arrived in Oundle it turned out they made it 35mm wider than they should and FL didn't want to chop the boat up to fit it in, so Besenzoni are making another one from scratch as a rush job and it should arrive from Italy in a week or two and be fitted last minute

What happened to the FL combined passarelle/swim ladder jobbie?

You're kidding aren't you? Are the stabs good enough to allow a freestanding ping pong table to stay put on the bathing platform? Why not go the whole hog and turn the bathing platform into a sort of pub games area ie pool table, dart board, skittles. A couple of draught bitter pumps nailed on the transom and you're away:)

It's not sensibly fittable to an up/down platform boat. You could do it I suppose, but you have to have the hydraulic pump pack inside the boat's hull, which means you'd have to bridge the hydraulics across the quite big gap you get with an up/down platform in the fully down position.

I will lower the platform to water-surface level when swimming off it in calm weather

Gotta leave a bit of room for the ironing board. :D Has anyone still got the pic of tcm "extreme ironing" on a bathing platform at sea?
 
If its not too late - have you got a wireless remote for the platform?
Really useful addition - Sunseeker in our marina has one.
You dont have to get out of the dinghy to berth it.
May not be a good thing though with an outboard RIB - the Sunseeker has a JetRib.

I do think this is the greatest thread ever and I think we should all thank you for taking the time to do it. I sort of feel like a co-owner! Once again SWIMBO is most impressed and has asked me what you do, where you live etc.... very worrying :)

Cant wait to see the wake shots....mmmmmmmm

Rpm, trim, fuel rate, etc. The Garmin is a colour chartplotter and depth unit, and I think I'll mainly use it as a data display ie depth and gps speedo. There will be a garmin vhf handset to port of the plotter, with the vhf black box hidden away

Good point about the cushions though. I'll ask Avon if they can supply some :)

Sorry for late reply here but just seen new posts - wonderful seeing the boat so near to finish. Very much looking forward to visiting the craft at LIBS.

On the Rib - I'm surprised the boat was not delv. with a bow seat cushion as well as the helm seat and of course the consul seat that expands out to sit 3 case need - one tip jfm; get a rear cushion also from avon as a back rest for the midships seat as it makes the ride much more comfortable for those sat there as their backs are not thrown back onto a solid consul :-)

Yup, it has wireless remote. And yup, I need to be careful with the outdoard else will gouge the teak (though, it's easy to replace a plank or two!)

I think there was some tongue in cheekness mjf. It was delivered with a full cushion set!

I didn't order the optional backrest for the midships seat though. I thought it would take up too much room. You do longer trips in yours (editor's note: mjf has the same Avon RIB and engine, on the Thames) whereas most trips in a tender will be 5 minutes or so. I will order it if I need it, but I think I'd prefer to try it without for starters

Yup, it goes by road (2+3 Dec; it's a 2-day drive) from Oundle (factory) to ipswich by low loader, then in the water at Ipswich, and everything thereafter is on own bum. The Oundle to Ipswich route is the only route the police will allow

There's one particularly awkward road bridge where they must have to let the tyres down on the lorry or something...
