Boat in build pics (2013 Fairline Squadron 78)

Looking at her AIS signal the Apollogracht should be in Southampton in the next few hours.
Yup, she is in Southampton now heading to the dock in the corner at Western docks. Apparently I'm near last to load, on Friday not tomorrow. Looks like I'll be in Antibes just before end of month :-). Sevenstar are being very helpful about organising a cradle for my boat and keeping me very closely informed about the ship's movements

Is the cradle made from scratch as a one-off or are there existing cradles that are adapted to the specific hull? Do they use the manufacturer drawings of the hull or do they build it / adapt it once at the boat?

We're down Friday afternoon John shortly before nipping over to the IOW for the festival. I'll have the camera ready on the off chance she's being loaded as we pass.

it's an adjustable cradle for boats in the 70-90 foot category. They have been sent hull drawings and will adjust it to suit then done tune on the day. When my boat is unloaded in genoa they send a lorry down to collect the cradle and bring it back to uk or wherever it is next needed. I have pics and will post when I'm on bigger computer

goodo but its not really on your route Gary. Where you turn left out of itched to go down Southampton water, I'll be turning right going north a mile to the dock way up top right hand corner, almost as far as you can see. Near millbrook train station. Prob leaving ov about 1pm it now appears. I'll get some pics anyway for sure!

John
Hope the loading goes to plan and schedule later. As we are no doubt nearing the end of this thread I just wanted to add my thanks for all your posts. I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the Swanwick event to see her, but If I ever get down Antibes way, I'll try and look you up. I hope you have many happy hours on her and I look forward to hearing about your experiences in SOF.
Dave

Hi John, any chance you could record the Kahlenberg horns and send me wav file?

All the best with your great vessel - Piers

Taken in isolation that post could see us labelled as somewhat strange individuals. This month's specialist publication on Have I got news for you :) .

Fingers crossed all goes to plan this afternoon. Ship, crane, loading, new boat & Youtube !

Show them how it should be done John & I look forward to the first video of her resting in Villefranche sporting bikinis, champers & culinary delights.

Henry :)

Well she didn't fall out of the slings !

I seem to have far to much spare time to kill:o

I notice that none of the boats are covered/shrink wrapped. When I shipped my, considerably smaller, boat to Palma it went uncovered and was filthy on arrival.

looks like a nice crop of boats they have there! nice to see Match II safely loaded for her trip to warmer regions!

not sure if its the angle of the picture of the fact she is still in the strops in the last picture but the cradle looks a bit on the small side?

Well Vas , it just so happens that I did , so:p to you to :D .
Hope you don't mind me posting it John .
Turn of the sound if you don`t want to listen to the scrap metal being moved about in the background :o

Wow thanks Andy for the video. Just watched it full screen on the HD setting. Our man on the scene as Henryf says :D Saved firmly in my favourites!

I'll post a few pics later. The loading went really well and I was very pleased with Sevenstar's (and the shipping company Spleithoff's, and the surveyor's) management and handling of the whole thing. Really top job and they kept me nicely informed

My boat did have a full cover put on, waterline to waterline, by the excellent Dan at Drift covers and his team. Top job as always. To my surprise, mine was the only boat covered on the whole deck.

I'll post more pics and details later. The ship is now anchored off Isle of white, just west of Cowes, opposite entrance to Beaulieu River. I guess (but don't know) that they are waiting for the strong westerly wind to pass, in which case full marks again to the shipping company and captain. I guess it will be there all day today so if anyone out on the Solent grabs a picture please post. My boat is the one with the cover!

I'll sort out camera chip and post a few pics later

Looking on the web to see when it arrives in Palma - cant see it - down next weekend can take a pic if it is there.

Timingwise it will be a close call J. She is I think waiting for westerly gale to pass before leaving the Solent, then is unloading the aftmost 3 yachts in Gib, then she goes to Palma to unload the 6 yachts in front of mine (front two rows of yachts on the deck) leaving just my boat and the manhattan 73 to my port side for unload in Genoa. They will tell me the etas next week so I'll let you know before the weekend.
