Boat in build pics (2013 Fairline Squadron 78)

JFM has now created the "Match" brand for the best in class Fairline 78s. Fairline customers will ask for the "Match" design/spec and pay a premium. Fairline should retain him and create a line of "Match" yachts.

JFM will soon become the Pininfarina of the boat world.

Pininfarina or Kelly Hoppen? ;) Or have you been collaborating with her on scatter cushions?

You tend to have production, custom and semi custom boats.

A custom boat is pretty much a blank canvas for potential owners to work with. There will be some areas of the boat's design which are set in stone but an awful lot can be changed.

On a production boat all the major design choices have already been made. The new owner selects from a series of options. Fabric choice, selection of extras which might include generators, climate control, cabin fit out - do you want a third cabin or a lower dining area and so on.

Semi custom is half way between the 2 and that's what we have seen here. Fundamentally the design and layout of the boat is set in stone but owners can jig things around and choose more major equipment options such as custom trim tabs, stairs from the interior to the flybridge and so on.

Composite (glass fibre) boats are more limited in what changes can be made due to the structural need for bulkheads in certain areas. Metal hulls generally allow for more radical interior layout customisation.

I would say that JFM is pushing the envelope of production boat semi customisation. Not all manufacturers would be as accommodating as Fairline.

In terms of "having boats ready to finish off" boats tend to be scheduled and built in a production line from start to finish in 1 go. Generally speaking each boat already has a customer be it a private individual or a dealer. Occasionally a factory might build a boat on spec hoping to sell it during production or once completed.

A very crude overview.

Henry :)

Thanks!

yes, yes but all so immaterial.

What is the OB rating? ;)

"Obligatory Bitches" rating of a power boat as defined by number of random semi-naked wimmin that might reasonably by scattered around on the decks for a photo short. D2 had a rating of at least 8 but M2 might be up at perhaps 11, not sure. Wakeup is final arbiter, I believe.

He exists! ;) Hi ! Nice to see you back commenting on a subject so close to your heart .. OB-ratings obviously, not Motor Boats! Has Mojomo ever been officially credited with her rating? Must be able to string scores across trampolines ..

Edit -- and major congratulations on your circumnavigation.

The "B" depends on how gangsta you are.

My bitches are loading up the whip ready to head south. I've got a case of fortys, a load of cheese and in spite of the whack weather We're gonna to get krunk. Gotta dip, One.

My wife and female friends are loading up the car ready to head down to the boat. I've packed a few beers and have a bit of money on me. In spite of the awfull weather we're planning to have a jolly good time. Must dash love to everyone.

I think the word you're looking for is biatches, blood.

Cheers

a few Q's J,
- what kind of strainers are these for the engines , anything special about them apart from looking really nice ?
just interested, might need to change mine next winter or so,
the "sieves" are totally corroded, and one of the covers doesn't fit smooth (never did), so its probably time to replace the strainers and these big seacocks
- Carling switches; do you know a supplier who has all models / flavours in stock, and can do the custom labelling ? Changing the switches on the lower helm station is on my long todo list, and can't find them here locally, nor Farnell, ...
- What VHF will you have ? anything special ? I asume Gramin,
my Icom 601 is lost in transportation for reprogramming the mmsi code,
was planning to order a 603, same size, unless I can find a good reason to buy something else,

I hope you don’t mind that I copy your good and well thought idea’s :)

quick note,
after much negociation (mainly with myself) we had finally decided for Quick led lights (we tested the last product version, as could be seen at Metz, etc...)
just stumbled over a big box in the hall, they have just arrived.
thanks for the tip, remember more then a year ago now :)

Would now be a good time to say, you mean something like this !!!!!

No hijack intended.... i spose tis the nature of this sorta thread that we all hang about for more pix, really? I merely commented on the OB rating issue. Boats with mast have a MUCH lower OB rating afaik, usually zero due to the tendency of of any B's to wear wet weather gear, pull ropes and generally "muck in" with the generally pesky necessity of wafting about at the mercy of the elements under sail, instead of overpowering them with carefree use of fossil fuels. Yeah, I sailed round the world but secretly there's loads of motoring. Gotta use a sail sometimes cos there's some legs of over 4k nm which yerknow, would be a lot of jerrycans....

"I've got no idea what they are or what they're for though. "

I think jfm's got a mystic heptagram on one of the the foredecks.
