Boat in build pics (2013 Fairline Squadron 78)

That Miele drier looks like the same model we've just installed in our utility room at home. If you ever work out how to disable the blimmin annoying alarm at the end of the program, please let me know. :D

The f/b dash looks awesome already.

This is a silver fabric that goes on some cabin bulkheads. ...... Boyriven who are the importer of the Maharam NY fabrics were fantastic and went way above and beyond normal service in getting this

I was on the Maharam website, do you mind telling the name of the fabric you've got ?
are you going to use Maharam fabric also for the upholstry, or is that Sunbrella ?

skipping all the beige, yes I like that.

Hi BartW. The fabric on Match2's walls/bulkheads is Maharam Tek-Wall, range = "Inset", colour = "Tinsel 001". Here http://www.maharam.com/products/tek-wall-inset/colors/001-tinsel

It's quite white looking and the silver is shiny. It will mix with white ceilings, some silver vinyl panels, and silk-laquered walnut wood. And purple cushions :)

External upholstery is Sunbrella (silver grey) with some www.RoyalBotania.com chairs (=white batyline on stainless steel frames) and inside upholstery is a mix of leathers, plus fabrics from www.zinctextiles.com and JAB Anstoetz = www.jab-uk.co.uk

Think I died somewhere in the middle of that.

mmm nice,

I had in mind to replace the beige soft leather ceiling textiles in BA, (another part of my colour sheme adaptions)
by Texaa, colour = Gris perle http://www.texaa.com/products/24-colours/ (we use that in OB trucks)
but I believe that Maharam is more refined, and more modern,
will have to see it in real first :)

Yup, the boat is on a trolley with a dozen big castors, and the boats move along the "production line" by dragging the trolley. The boats are all laser levelled on the trolleys to begin with, so that the fit-out guys can use ordinary spirit levels when doing internal joinery

At the end, the boats are lifted off the trolleys by a marina-style travel hoist, into a test tank, then onto a lorry

The pic below is taken from Match 1 flybridge, while she was in the test tank, showing the travelhoist and behind it Match1's trolley. (When this pic was taken they were lifting the eBay-sourced test Laser on, to finalise the chocks

Picture024.jpg

That wins the award for the mankiest Laser I've ever seen. I imagine it would have cost more to get rid of it than it was worth.....

I didn't realise you had a laser dinghy on the last boat. At the boat show this year I walked past some toppers (Oh no, it must have bee somewhere else, they only had multi-million pound plastic gin joints at LIBS), and as I was telling Sharon how the topper always felt a bit soft compared to the laser I found myself contemplating a 2 storey arrangement for keeping a sailing dinghy on top of the tender :)

Great fun.

Lovely photos by the way, coming on nicely.

Henry :)

I cannot however think of any basis to associate them with "cheap". There is no relationship between cheap boats and white decks.
Agreed.
As much as I am in the "any colour you want as long as it's black" league for caulking, I wouldn't call white cheaper.
Just curious, did really RH build any boat other than Twizzle with white caulking? What's the world's coming to...?!

Yup, sailing boats make fab toys. The RS boats work well - there's one a bit smaller than a Laser and more serious than a Topper
For mine, Laser kindly stopped the gel spray facility and put Fairline white gelcoat in, for just the one custom build. It would have a looked a bit daft with the standard ivory deck and light grey hull

I'll be happy to show you this summer BartW. So long as ellesar doesn't find out we've been discussing fabrics :-)

tis fine, I'll be in the engine room with the real men, uninterrupted.

Mock you might, but it was a revelation to find out that Bart W spends his time in OB trucks - as I did before I took to boating for a living.

Things improved when I stopped the engineer committees spending days arguing over which shade of beige to use and gave the job to a real designer. And you have to remember that a 40 ft OB truck can cost more than a 78ft boat :)

So I allowed the designer to choose the colours, and I accepted that the degree of success of the project was inversely proportional to the acceptability to the genius, boffin engineers.

But I did draw the line at scatter cushions........

I was looking at some match1 pics to get the "landrover" pics above and it occured to me that these two pics of match 1 then match 2, in similar state of undress, show the difference in cabin glazing

The glazing gives the 2 boats quite a different look. The squarer glazing on M2 makes M1 look very dated in comparison from the pix you have taken to date. I will be very interested in seeing the finished article.

Dare I admit that I am an old fuddy duddy who much prefers the old style small 'traditional' type of windows as per Match 1, rather than those large angular windows on Match 2?
Although I do admire (and am very impressed by the technology behind) these new windows, especially the 'fritting' described by JFM earlier (or on the Match 1 thread perhaps).
And like Rafiki, I am following this thread with keen interest, and looking forward to seeing photos of the finished vessel (and lots more photos of the outfit work being carried out in the meantime).
