Can anyone ID this boat?
VFvKeLk_d.jpg

Unfortunately it is the only picture I have of it at the moment. To me it looks like a Leisure 17 but the front window layout is slightly different. It also says “Vario” on the side which after much googling hasn’t come up with anything useful.

I’m looking for a small bulge keeler to fix up and it looks like it fits the bill but I would like to research the boat before committing.

Thanks peeps!

Tango = orange. ;)

Richard

Maybe.

.....because it opens up all sorts of waters which are not really accessible to cabin sailboat cruising, e.g. the Kawartha Lakes. Makes include Antila, TES, Tango, Phobos, Maxus, Sasanka, Twister etc.

Clive

A little more research. Some/All(?) of these yachts may be Polish or German yachts according to the post.

I think the Polish Tango yachts, built by Janmor, were rather larger.

Awesome thanks guys. I'm thinking sunspot 15 after a little more research. If they are anything like the Leisure 17 then they are a good little boat. A little bit of sprucing up and she will be cruising in no time!

+1

The smallest of the "Sun"range of boats

Sunstar 18 is almost identical to a Leisure17, Sunray is 21 ft and Sunflair 27ft.

All, like the L17, were designed by Arthur Howard

I remember sitting on a Leisure 17 at the ‘proper’ London Boat Show back in the early 70’s with Arthur Howard explaining that he was arguing with Cobramold that they were putting the mast step of the 17 too far frwd and it would sail better if it was moved back 6”. We never tried this on our 17 which was our first ‘cruiser’ but it was an interesting half hour.
