Last year the head waiter at the Beetle and Wedge bought a stunning Dutch open launch to hire out by the hour or day. Even with last years crummy weather and a £3,000 licence fee he managed a profit. This year he put two more on the water. One is at the Shillingford Bridge Hotel the other at Benson. They are doing famously, this weather making matters even better. Next year he intends a further three more smaller ones.
He has given up his job as Head Waiter although he does help out if needed and is concentrating on the boat hire. It is so refreshing to see a young man succeeding in these trying times.

Polite query re licence fee. Commercial rates are less than double private rates so would have expected licence to be only a few hundred at most?
I'm only repeating what he told me last year when I asked the licence fee. He said £3,000. The boats are about 27-30' long and quite fat.

I only bothered looking up as far as 89 sq metres , and that is £2480.

So working from a 30 ft boat ( 9.1m ) in length , it would have to be over 10m wide to get anywhere near that price. Can't see that fitting in too many locks , or even making progress that well ?

Would probably look pretty weird too.

9.1 m x say 4 m would be approx £ 1015
