On Sunday, we moored just below the slipway at Cookham. Just before midnight, we heard a crash, which turned out to be a boat hitting the bank between us and the Ferry Inn. I then realised that the boat was on fire and called the fire brigade. At this time another couple of people arrived who woke up the people on another near by boat, and we moved our boats up the river to safety. By this time, the fire had got hold, and a couple of explosions [gas, petrol ?] happened, and the boat drifted towards the Cookham Bridge. Up stream we greated by a great bunch from Windsor Yacht Club, who helped us tie up to them [my mooring pins were still attached to my lines !!] and generally made sure we were ok. By this time the fire brigade arrived, and after some time the boat sank. This is un proven as yet, but it is belived that the boat may have been stolen, used by joy riders and then torched ?
I would really like to thank the people from Windsor Yacht Club for their kind assistance and help and aslo ask that if any body reading this was at Cookham on Sunday night and has anything to add, that they contact Maidenhead Police, the EA or Fire Brigade.
If the boat was stolen it is a stark reminder to us all about the terrible things that can happen, that boat was someones pride and joy. To my knowledge no one was hurt, and the whole incident could have been far worse. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
