Hi All, I'll be heading off to OV shortly staying overnight and leaving midday Sunday. If anyone needs their warps and fenders checking (or anything else for that matter) whilst I am down there, send me a PM or reply to this thread and I'll be happy to give them the once over for you.

cheers Gary

HI G .... I get the impression they might think you will nip on board and "borrow" a steering ram ..................... I,ll get me coat !!!!!

Thanks Gary I would take you up on that but I think I will pop down tomorrow morning as also want to turn on the dehumidifier and heaters to keep her dry over the winter.

Yes please Gary. If you are willing to pop over and take a look at Sarasa's ropes and fenders, that'd be much appreciated.

Though I'm hoping that we are both well protected in OV.

There has to be some benefit of those tall dark dock walls, and huge buildings!

Cheers

Garold.

Will do Garold. Wind's getting up now and blowing through the marina but not too bad for us as you say, biggest risk is debris blowing off the building site

The boat behind us has gone a bit over the top with more lines laid out than a pop stars coffee table, in fact he has tied up to pretty much every cleat on the pontoon, both sides. It is a limbo dancers paradise at the moment!

When I asked him to just adjust one of his lines to make our life easier he went into one.

I told him I didn't want to fall out with anyone and then out of the blue he just said "I have spent loads more time around boats than you". I have to admit I was completely thrown by the relevance of that bizarre statement and still have no idea what that has to do with his complete disregard to anyone else's safety. I ended up ringing the marina office and asking them to come down and have a word with him but even the marina assistant manager couldn't get him to make his lines off safer.

The last thing I saw as I walked away and ignored the 'bell-end' was him taking photos of his lines and telling the assistant manager that the photos were for insurance reasons.

To be fair to the marina, after the 'bell-end' left, the assistant manager returned and cable tied some fluorescent waistcoats to the line so people can see it in the dark so I am not sure there is anything else he can do tonight.

We now have one line stretched from his bow right across the main pontoon, tight enough to play a tune upon, while the rest of his bow lines tied off on his side of the pontoon are hanging slack.

It has completely thrown me, 20 years ago I would have just punched his lights out and walked off, now I have found myself really wound up by his arrogance, selfishness and complete disregard for anyone else.

Before anyone says 'just throw the line off', that isn't the answer. I, like Gary, am more than happy to cast an eye over other peoples boats and lines when I walk past, in fact I had dropped into the marina office this morning and told them that the wheel cover on this actual 'bell-ends' boat was coming off in the wind and while I was happy to sort it out, I didn't like just jumping aboard someone else's pride and joy. They went straight down and sorted it for him. I wish I hadn't bothered.

I guess I am just writing this to vent my frustration and disbelief at one persons behaviour and to ask everyone to think about how their mooring lines might impact upon other people. I certainly am not saying don't make your boats safe, just consider fellow boaters and their safety.

Finally, sorry Gary for hijacking your thread.

no worries mate, I find lines such as this require cardboard signs hanging from the inappropriate mooring lines for others to take note of when they walk past.. choose you own words but may I suggest that you start it with "I am a Bell-End and... " should you decide to do so ;)

Paul...apply bunting to said lines (all of them), rig up party lights, chuck on some music and post the event on Facebook. :D

At 4:30am when I need to take my nightly walk to water the plants, I might just put on a coat and wash his lines for him... :)

Put flashing LED strips on the lines, and about a dozen Gnomes in his cockpit.

I can check anyone in Sparkes tomorrow ... the staff are also doing extra rounds until things calm down.

It will not be a problem for long, F pontoon is being removed so we are having to move.

Mind you, it might take a while to remove F pontoon, by the looks of things tonight the bell-end probably has it tied to Bursledon bridge....

Hope you don't snore, we went to look at our new berth today and it seems we are going to be close........
