Due to unforeseen circumstances regarding cash flow and daughters new accomodation in Madrid I have decided to put off buying a boat probably till next Spring so no more tales of nearly buying a boat or questions of engine reliability of 40 year old tore outs??

Thanks, cometheSpring the financial situation should have stabilized and daughter have a job(or not) and we will have more savings and be able to look at better quality boats or even go down to Cadiz if that Jouet is still for sale……and the orcas have buggered off?
Thats good. Kids and your finances, luckily we’d bought our boat before our son announced his engagement. 5 days til the wedding.

Sounds like a recipe for oodles of winter entertainment scouring the mags and websites for potential boat opportunities with a wider search area and a deeper budget, yet without the drawback of having to actually make any decisions..

Be warned, though, that the most interesting and appealing boats are always just beyond your budget, whatever level that is set at!

Your honorary boat selection consultants stand at the ready to offer knowledge, wisdom and experience leg pulling, misinformation and blind prejudice to guide you in your choices! :D

It’s a classical management maneuver promising a brighter future far enough inthefuturefor the punters to forget .I will or course keep an eye on the market but will not publish my findings.Thefuture looks exciting with gardening keeping the home fires burning and forays into the forum on important matters?

Unfortunately, my experience is as they get older they just add zeros to their requests for funding (aka 'loans')
My solution was to marry young and educate the children well. Mine have been self supporting since leaving uni. Now of course grandchildren take their place but fortunately there is a parental buffer between them and us so our contribution is discretionary.

I have to say, having inadvertently started this particular hare, the wedding costs are a 1 off. And the lad has had the foresight to find a woman to marry who is a fully qualified marine electrical engineer. I consider any expenses incurred as an investment?

I have successfully restricted our yachts to those with basic technology (our J24 had no wiring at all) - if it requires the services of a fully qualified marine electrical engineer (no matter how young and pretty) - I'm not interested.
