I have just this very moment returned from looking round some sailing boats on the south coast. Sheesh! One of them in particular had a large helping of purplish bird poo on the deck. Even the owner was a bit weird and grunted in a strange accent at me, whilst wearing a daft hat.

I suspect I've heard of this boat before, and that there may be another huge pile of poo lurking, undiscovered, in a tank somewhere.

Walk away; there are plenty more bargains out there and the owner doesn't really want to sell anyway. The grunting is just a front - you should start getting really worried when he starts asking you if you've ever been to the coronation of a king prawn, or some such rubbish.

Listen mate, this ain't a bargain its a must have .. how many boats of this age have 3 good genoas and 2 mains ... hmmm ... might just sell all the bits and keep the boat!

I think you may be right - except that i watched the boat from a distance along the pontoon (upwind) with the owner on board for a while. Without exception all boats seemed to avoid the by the greatest distance possible, and as we went for a test sail he recited great chunks of the colregs at anyone else on the water. So, the boat is highly unlikely to have suffered any damage, dya think? I think I might make an offer on it although changing the name of the boat might be wise.
