Boat broken into and 3 others also in the same Creek

Thanks Paul. Your previous assistance with the wiring actually stands me in good stead and indeed good preparation for fitting new kit. The worst thing is I have to wait until the yard's big tractor works again. I understand the parts have now arrived and are fitted so activity for the heavier stuff can be slipped.

I am actually cheating boasting over the new instrument panel. Only one turn of the key turns on both the 24v system and the 12v system, powering up the 24v gauges and the 12v gauges at the same time. Even 12v lights in the 24v gauges. It's just a matter of skill and knowledge! Unfortunately I never tell anyone it was you who explained it to me!

Thanks Cueball.

You just did :)

Late arriving at this thread - share the sentiments expressed by so many about the theft and those who perpetrated it.
Just to throw a curve - you weren't about to survey some area that someone might rather you didn't?

No Marm. There were three other boats 'done' after the same sort of gear.... and I wasn't about to do anything except for the boat to be ashore. But for the unexpected delay by the tractor breakdown the boat would have been safely ashore.

I would also check local auction houses - several years ago I bought a couple of boating lots from my local auction, some stuff I put on ebay and was visited by Cambridgeshire police a few days later, and found it had all been stolen. They took all the stuff I had listed and some I had not yet listed. I had the auction sale slip so was clear, the auction house was embarrassed and refunded my cost - about £100 from memory. I'll keep a look out but they are closed now of course.

PF - yes good point. I think my electrical kit stolen would be an unusual combination: Onwa Kcombo 7A+ (serial number is available), Standard Horizon 300i, Humminbird 797ic2. Innocent purchasers don't own the property of course unless via market overt and I think that is abolished.

The most difficult thing is to value the tools stolen. I had left most of my tools on board because I had just finished 'winterising' and I didn't fancy lugging everything up the causeway. Tools built up over 40 years! Ugh. Impossible to remember everything.

not much use to you now----i recently had a good pair of step ladders stolen-----i replaced them and used a cheap engraving machine------they are now covered in engravings-----stolen and my postcode-----might be a good idea for the future

Good idea.

I have finally solved the mystery. On the shelf above the cooker and sink there was a mysterious space. An clear clean empty space. How on earth? Never do that. On the shelf is the tea, coffee, sugar, biccies, vintage cuppa soup packages and right next to it is this space! Endless nights, wrestling and tossing and turning. What has happened?

But then I contextually reinstated myself. Prior to coming out to winterise the engine I had asked SWMBO to buy a twin pack of kitchen paper. Being tidy I didn't make a mess changing the oil and filter so I didn't use the pack of paer. So I placed the pack on the shelf next to the tea and coffee.

Who would have thought they planned to steal the kitchen roll? Must add that to the list of stolen property.

You can always paint parts of equipment not seen with a bright luminous paint. As a theif removes the item he sees the paint and moves on. I knew a guy that painted the whole of his outboard with luminous paint, no thief would want that

I have a couple of traps laid. They are outside bets but coincidence happens.

HR - don't try to understand it. Just expect every aspect of human nature. I was going to add a few personal encounters with human nature but the Forum is for fun so I'll stick to a coincidence: In Armenia doing a bit of consultancy work for the UN, on the last day of work, I am told that the First Secretary from the UK embassy would pop in for a drink at my hotel. He does and of course we chat. He is not a sailor but while in Poole he met a chap who had a steel sailing boat which was normally kept the boat on the East Coast at a place that began with 'M'. And he and his family had had a day out on the boat. The conversation drifted for a while and in a lull (I hope you are all noting the sailing allusions) I said 'The steel boat, was it Dutch made'? Yeap. 'Was it called Triple'? Yes, 'Was the 'M' Maldon'.? Yeap, 'Was the owner called xxxx'? Yeap.

I know the owner, I have sailed on that boat! What are the odds of that.

We met the skipper of said Steel yacht 7 or 8 years ago when moored on the vistors pontoon in Bradwell.

He perhaps spent too much time on the fuel pontoon and coming past us came to a graceful halt aground. We ran a few lines across to keep him secure and ferried across drinks both hot an 'cold', a really nice chap. He asked where we were going the next day, we said we had hoped to go into Heybridge but unfortanatly they are full as it is the Festival so will probably head south. He said I will ring my brother who is the lock keeper and sort it for you - and he did.

Perfect gentleman - one good turn deserves another.

I did warn you not to try to find logic, David. If they used the kitchen roll, they must have kindly tidied up taking away the wrapper!

Good to see Triple again. Gosh yes, Colin would have found space. To my shame I can't remember Colin's brother's name.
