I'm just doing plans for the bathroom on my boat having removed it from the back cabin as i want more clothes and junk storage in there instead !

So, i'm thinking or making it 80cm wide and 1.2m long, is that big enough generally ?, there is full standing height for the shower, and i want to put the shower at the front and the toilet behind it, no handbasin as it will be right next to the kitchen area so people can wash their hands once they come out

What does anyone think on the size ?

Now all i need is some of the big-heads that have smaller boats (mines only 27 foot long) to go measure the size of their bathroom and report back

I want the smallest space, but dont want it to be too small as to be impractical, but the kitchen and bathroom are right beside each other and i only have 2.3 metres of space for them both, and i want a big kitchen area !, so the bathroom needs to be as small as possible but still useable

Thanks

Leaving aside the ribaldry, suggest you mock up the space and see how easy it is to use it in the way you want. If you just want space to wee and poo then you don't need much. If you want to be able to shower, turn around and dress you need more. How much you allocate depends on whether you want to limit it to longitudinal alongside a passage way or spread it more across the beam. There are no fixed dimensions, but you might get some ideas from looking at the layouts of similar size and types of boat.

Some people (like the ladies usually) may not like the idea of others coming out of the heads & into the galley with dirty hands & holding on to keep their balance in a seaway before washing them in th efood preparation area. Just a thought you may wish to consider.

Go on some of the boat sales sites & look at some layouts for ideas. How important is the shower on a small boat & does it need to be a seperate area in the heads? Make the heads a "wetroom" area & the shower & toilet area are coincident. You could shower sitting down. and it keeps the heads clean if younger male crew have accidents or miss the target area.

Bathroom? Hey, this is a boaty forum - the smallest room must be referred to as the heads. There be boaty pedants on this forum.
Not necessarily so. On our previous boat, we always referred to it as the bathroom...............mainly because it had a bath in it!! :)

As well as dimensions, look at layout.
You can adjust alignment of the loo to give more elbow room. Many boats I looked at in the 27-28ft range had the loo square in the space, which seems ok until you are sat with your trousers down and need some elbow room.
My boat has the loo aligned across the diagonal which gives more space to complete the task.

Thanks for all the ideas everyone, i think i will go for a handbasin in there after all, i hadnt thought about all the germs being spread around whilst the boat is rolling and people holding onto everything.

I've mocked up the 1.2m x 0.8m size and it seems to have enough space for everything needed, i will make it a wet room, but i have an electric flushing loo, so not sure if the motor at the back will like that, but i guess i'll find out in 6 months time !!

Time to go and start the build now!
