Hello all,

New to the forum so please be nice!

Does anyone have experience of a reliable boat intruder alarm? i am thinking of the type that will text you if it is triggered. As i am marina based i am concerned about nuisance tripping etc causing annoyance to others!

Has anyone had their boats broken into whilst in a marina environment?

Hope i am not sounding paranoid but are moored boats a target?

Many Thanks

boat alarm

I have one you mentioned if you want the details I can look it up. Mine is great it will txt you if there is movement but they are sensitive, a sea gull or boats boats moving will set it off. I have mine hidden down below and there is a door sensor as well.

o2 do an offer where if you top up monthly you can txt any o2 phone. Im o2 so I put an o2 sim card in so it can txt me as many times as it wants for £10 a month. What it does it will take 5 very quick pictures and mms them to you, if this happens you can ring the phone and listen and also if the power goes off it will txt you to say off and when it comes back on.

think it was £200 or £250 cant remember.

We have a Nokia camera mounter inside out boat, it has a motion and temp sensor and will send you a MMS with photo's when activated or a text when the temp falls out with a user defined range. You can also call it up and have a listen if you are so enclined. We got ours on contract but as soon as thya ran out we changed the sim cadr to a pay as you go, seems to work very well.

Welcome to the forums

I design and also market very reliable boat security systems, including anchor drag watch keeping, flat battery, flooding, theft, and cabin break in. If you are unfortunate to have your boat stolen, you can track its course and speed.

It can also easily monitor your yacht or boat if any external desirable items stolen, radar, wind genny, outboard or life-raft etc. I even have one for inflatables which you leave tied up whilst you go ashore for the evening.

PM me for details.

that is exactly the sort of function i would be looking for,New boat arrives in 10 days ,i will do some more homework and get in touch via PM (Dave)
any model numbers of nokia unit would be a real help?
Many thanks

just a thought, if the alarm is remote and you are at home miles away, the notification of breaking and entry is only as good as the reaction time of the people nearby
That's the same even if your boat was not alarmed. Forewarned is forearmed. ;)

It is all down to contingency plans and thinking ahead. Knowing that someone is breaking into your yacht in real time is far better than finding out that someone broke into your yacht within the past month or so. They could be long gone weeks earlier and the stolen equipment sold on e-Bay before you are even aware that they have been stolen off your yacht.

If my alarm on my yacht went off right now, I could telephone the marina office or a local liveaboard or the HM or even the CG if the boat was now transmitting the Lat-Long and speed telling me my yacht was on the move. Once the CG are aware, they can back up the track using Radar so you have a potential ally, watch-keeping with very good 'clout' when it comes to calling the police and apprehending the villains on arrival at their destination! :(

Not only does it tell me that someone has entered inside my yacht, my alarm systems will transmit location and speed dependent on the setting which I can program into the device. It can let me know every ten minutes, every hour or every 4 hours or what ever time I set. It would not trigger if someone was rafted up and just transiting my yacht although this could be programmed in if required. The same as it can state that someone is stealing my outboard/radar/wind-genny/life-boat or any other desirable item not protected below.

It draws 18 milliamps, which is possibly similar to a 12 volt cell-phone charger, so can be left on continuously and is smaller than the size of a packet of 20 cigarettes and can be installed in as little as ten minutes even by someone with little or no knowledge of electrics. ;)

I have also fitted one to my car and it has been running for a number of weeks without ever flattening the car battery and I don't use my car every day. Batteries on a boat are have a far, far greater storage capacity than a car. ;)

Columbia Boat Alarms make a boat alarm that is practical. It is not advertised but they have a new system that will call you when the alarm is triggered. It is necessary that the area be served with GSM cell phone service. An activated SIM chip is inserted into the alarm. The cell phone alert is about $500.00. This is connected to the boat alarm so the total cost is about $1000.00.
