Just thinking would it work as most largish modern boats have aft cabins and v berth up forward. Could you not have a air canister and an inflating bladder in each to displace water and lend buoyancy in the even of taking on large amounts of water? They would not need to be as heavy duty as liferafts and would give you enough time to bodge a fix. They would be manually inflated and could even be stowed under cockpit and then inflate into cabins.
Seems like something the mca would be all over given their obsession with watertight bulkheads.
