As a long time Laser sailer I might have concluded that we needed a high performance cruiser if we hadn't had 3 or 4 years of chartering before buying. For us, the reality of family weekends and holidays around the Solent and beyond is a mix of sailing, beaches, walks, socialising and the occasional race for fun.
- When sailing, our 9 year old is always in the cockpit and clipped on .... not so when we are tied to a pontoon, so I wouldn't want an open transom (yet).
- If I had a Labrador, I would want an opening transom and perhaps a cockpit tent .... they are not the most athletic of dogs with a few years on the clock!
- We wouldnt want a more demanding boat for our annual channel crossing. They can be surprisingly tough short handed.
- An active owners club is great for getting you out sailing on miserable weekends and creates a new circle of friends for the adults and kids. This helps everyone to stay engaged and enthusiastic about weekends on the boat.
