I'm considering cutting down a domestic aluminium ladder, upgrading the rungs with wooden tops, and using it as a boarding ladder. Can anyone advise how well this type of ladder will survive the marine environment? Are there any other problems with this solution that I might have overlooked? In a MOB situation what's the recommended depth that the ladder should be immersed to?

if you're starting with the ladder you keep in the shed, it will probably make at least 3 boarding ladders so you have a spare when the first one dies.

for swimming you'll need 50cm below water, for mob i'd aim for twice that.
