BMC Alternator type?

On my engine the rear bracket is bolted to tapped lugs that are part of the block casting. The old alternator was attached to these via a right-angled bracket. The support for the rear mounting point of the alternator was about, from memory, an inch from the bolts holding the bracket to the block. The new bracket extends considerably forward to pick up the mounting on the far shorter new alternator.

The front mounting on the alternator picked up a point that was on the engine mounting. This was not in the correct place for the new alternator. The new front mounting is a forging that picks up two bolts at the top of the chain case, one into the block and one with a nut that is at the top of the plate holding the chain case to the block. As I said, mine is a 2.2 litre engine that may differ from yours.

This engine is widely used, in London taxis and narrow boats, for example, so it is highly likely that you will find some in a scrapyard.
