Personally, I'm sorry for him. Doing a small favour for a girlfriend is hardly a resigning matter to my mind. In private industry (and in much of the public sector) such a trivial issue would be laughed at. And as for having an affair with someone else's wife..........

Now being publicly snotty about your colleagues - thats different.

<hr width=100% size=1>this post is a personal opinion, and you should not base your actions on it.

Well I for one am delighted to see him go.

A dishonest and arrogant man.

When leader of Sheffield council he was Hard Left - pro Moscow. Red flag flying over Sheffield Town Hall never Union Flag or even Euro flag.

Somewhere he changed and and became somewhere right of Atilla the Hun - imprisonment without trial etc etc. and pro EU.

What does he really believe?

I would suggest whatever is most advantageous at the moment - I doubt he would recognise a principle if one hit him over the head.

Good riddance

Where did he get the idea that he could invade another man's marriage and demand DNA tests on his kids ? If he wants kids - let him set up his own marriage.
And I thought the last Conservative Govt. was arrogant.
But who is to replace him ?
Who said we get the Govt. we deserve ?

What do we call his resignation? A START!

A wholly loathsome individual. How dare he demand DNA tests on the children of a marriage to which he was not a party - and did he never think what he was doing to those children?

Good riddance. Clarke is another creep but at least we've made a start.

but you note that adultery is not considered wrong. a politician can bonk who he likes and no-one sees it as a resigning matter. probably because they don't want their own behaviour examined - parliament would soon be pretty empty.

It was ever thus. Nothing new in any of it and it will never be any different.

And here was me thinking Blair was going to change the world, and morals of government, silly me, of course he was in opposition at the time!

Don't get too upset, I have never been able to believe anything he has ever said.

It seems pretty clear that he has lied again and again in the last couple of weeks.

I don't know what sort of company you work for, or what standards apply in your work, but if in my job I did a friend an equivalent failure I'd end up in jail for it.

Agreed, and I hope that the stigma of Blunkett will lay heavily upon Blair in the future.

One thing I've found disquieting is the way that his affair with a married woman has been brushed aside as though of no consequence to his public office. This government has dragged our values below the gutter.

Re: What do we call his resignation? A START!

What is frightening is that it appears that the last straw is not his loose morals, corruption or lying; but rather the publication today of his biography attacking his colleagues.

Yes, you could not pay for that type of advertising at a book launch.

Clever huh!

Does anyone else think he waited for the book to come out before going!

Oh yes a comment on his leaving...

Woof woof woof woof woof. Woof. The most legislative Government in recent history must fall on its sword. Woof. Vote them away.

Re: What do we call his resignation? A START!

yes, and this a govermnet who got in on the back of a vociferous anti-sleaze campaign!
Anyway This man has done more to remove civil liberties and personal privacies and freedoms than anyone else in the last 50 years so good riddence. Whilst Maggie may have been hard and not very inclusive, major incompitent and blair a self interested toady I beleive that Blunket is a genuinly evil person, a very nasty piece of work so I for one will not be shedding any tears.

I agree with you birdseye.

His only mistake was not saying from the outset "yes I'm the Home Secretary, so what".
