I had this installed on my old laptop and am now trying to install it on an Advent netbook. I don't have a driver disc and can't source them online, neither can I locate the BLUENEXT web site, it seems to have vanished! Anybody any ideas?

generic serial port

It's almost certainly not a special driver. The dongle will be a GPS chip producing standard NMEA sentences, and the USB port will enumerate as a serial port (it need to to appear as a COM port, which is what all plotter programs require).

So its worth installing a generic serial port driver, loads of free ones on the internet, and give it a go before tossing the dongle away.
