BlueMoment is a sailing forum that has a strong Scottish theme to it. It has moved domains from .com to co.uk but with the same name.

BlueMoment - UK Sail Cruising

It has a wealth of local information, resources and if sailing in Scottish waters, it is worth asking a question on, or searching the forum using Advanced Google Search. Just remember to use the new domain address in the search term or BlueMoment will not be identified.

For people not familiar with this function of Google the syntax is -

site:example.com "search query" (without quote marks)

eg site:blueanchor.co.uk best anchor

Be really careful searching for websites you already know using Google, it's very common for scammers to temporarily hijack search returns to putting "natwest.com" into Google (usually a default home page) instead of straight into the url/address bar can put you at risk if there is a live scam site at the top of the listings.

The safer alternative is to bookmark your favourite sites rather than search for them every time you want to visit.

@wonkywinch thanks for the guidance and advice on searching.
It works really well with websites that don't have a very good search engine.

There are loads of other useful Google search operators, for example, the ones I use most :

filetype: filetype: jpg

before: yyyy/mm/dd raymarine before:2024-12-31

after: yyy/mm/dd rocna anchor after:2023-09-21

exact phrase match, put inverted commas around phrase "20mm mooring line"
You can combine the operators, eg site:forums.ybw.com "rocna anchor" after:2024-01-01
You stick all of the bold text into the Google search window.

My pet hate (and it happens all the time on this forum) is people posting tracker laden links to products or Google search results rather than the abbreviated product or link, eg:

...ebay.co.uk/itm/257336815250?_skw=mi-light&itmmeta=01KJ337H8FHPWTTAPTCB8CFC9J&hash=item3bea782e92:g:-woAAOSwAnlbojiK&itmprp=enc%3AAQALAAAA4GfYFPkwiKCW4ZNSs2u11xBtJSDvyfzXZoH2f6fpejYizK8WpKvZfpSP2w8FLWraqZuWcP6lVtWq2bElii1O5keBEbHvI6iyu6psoqmJPRXSdoJGGmagNYKWgP8B9P6vMPel6m%2FyUYFt8eG7dZ%2Br%2FiHESI1I7T6pHRjQvvpxoL%2F9WAC3xQypcOq744Bkb2vPP1ZRIPVy3V83%2BjFaslEDNrl%2FVnxpWBhL1JwfxZHkHTanECqqwfwEkuHthgPickRjsFZFTKZeOFGiZp8sxFPmMqfJwjTVyHJ%2BSaCOpB%2B194It%7Ctkp%3ABFBMvpSe45Bn

instead of ... ebay.co.uk/itm/257336815250

Or search terms ..

... google.com/search?q=victor+12v+orion&sxsrf=ANbL-n5dpTsIX87Yq4EvKLCNk8cRkjDvVw%3A1771936501898

Rather than a product link ..

... victronenergy.com/dc-dc-converters/orion-tr-smart
